Well we were so thrilled with our Longstreet game of Monocacy 1864 last year that we played it again!
This time we started off with the Rebs much closer on the Union Flank, accross the river, so that we didn't have to play all night
.5 players with commands, Caesar umpiring, and me, well just being helpful with teeth sucking and 'Oh thats a very daring move' type comments at unhelpful intervals! As ever the gallant Kaptain Koblold, aka General of the Confederacy Breckinridge was on hand to take notes and give despatch: link To be honest we didn't reach a conclusion with this game either, but we had lots of new players learning the ropes, which they did pretty quickly actually
Maybe next year!

One of my ancestors was wounded and captured at this battle. I'll have to visit your blog since I've been wanting to do tis battle myself and was looking for a good OOB. |

Drop by the Monocacy Battlefield July 5-6. We will be doing a small living history in commemoration of the 150th of the battle. Sparker – come on by and I'll give your a tour. OK, I know it is a bit of a trip, but I am sure you would be happy to leave your brutal winter weather and enjoy the mild Maryland summer (only about 38 degrees!) |

A very kind offer John but I'll have to take a rain check for now! Good luck with the re-enactment, I hope you'll post some photos. It would be particularly interesting to see some views around the railroad bridges and where the fords were, if its not too built up now

This was my first play of Longstreet and it was good fun. Although I did read through the rulebook (only once) before the game, I did not read through the cards. I found that this slowed down my first few rounds as I tried to work out what the cards meant. By the end of the game the cards were already becoming familiar and the straightforward rules mechanics meant that we could play quite quickly. With even moderately experienced players the game would have been playable to a conclusion. The scenario is a good one and I would happily play it (and Longstreet) again. Thanks for letting me join in. |
