Not the best photos – I'm still working on the lighting in the new shop. But here for your consideration are 19 inches – 288 figures – of 6mm Goodness. This battalion is comprised of 6 companies. Each company is made up of 4 bases 20x20mm, each base has 12 figures. This took me about 4 or 5 hours to paint.

Enjoy.

That's only half a battalion. I'm not satisfied. evil grin

It looks really cool! While my statement is in fun, it does point out how long a battalion would look. This is essentially 1-2 scale or there about.

Very cool !

If some enterprising company would just produce a full line of 6mm War Of 1812 figures, including the Native warriors, they'd be getting cheques from me.

… or 4 battalions of 6 companies each (x12)=72 figs or 1:10 ratio, (paper strength)!!!

Nice Job, Mark! Impressive and kudos for advancing the cause!

CraigH: I would think drawing on Baccus' Naps, ACW and AWI lines, you could get a pretty decent set of proxies for the War of 1812.

I am thinking of doing small armies in this figure ration of 1:2 or 1:3. Then adapt a rule set – something breezy like Black Powder. Do small, short games on big tables. You know, a brigade tries to take the hill. But the thing I want to do is write rules for formation changes that show how much work was really involved!

If you like AWI Larry Brom's "Disperse ye Damned Rebels" has a nice set of rules for Period tactical evolutions on the table top. Just enough complexity to them to show why maneuver was slow and ponderous, but still simple enough to be playable. I would love to see it done in 6mm.

They look great but it's a real shame you didn't use the de facto standard for 6mm basing. wink

I did a series on my blog a while ago about the cool effects you get on the tabletop with 6mm figs.

I don't do 6mm any more as I've changed my goals as far as painting and gaming goes, but you can't argue with the effect!

Over 10+ years ago I had an idea that I like to see what an English Civil War Regiment of foot looked like at 1:1

I know my Regiment marched out of the gates of York in 1642 with 650 men 150 officers.

So with 800 6mm figures from Baccus,
I organize them in to 10 companies in 6 ranks, when based up the regiments frontage is 80cm (31 1/2inches) = 270yards.

I take them to shows as a talking point, there are very few wargamers realize the size and foot print of a regiment at 1:1.

He also raised a regiment of Horse in 1643 so I am thinking of buying 350 Cavalry and seeing what that looks like.

P.S- nicely painted and based figures, it a different skill at 6mm.

As spectacle, little bettered when you have hundreds of figures on the table.
