I am looking at the Warlord Games plastic sprue sale and was considering just for fun buying enough sprues to paint up a German Squad to then sell on the Market Place. I understand that in the Bolt Action rules you can field a Storm squad pretty easily in other words all of the soldiers armed with the StG 44. Is this the case?

I just checked, and you are correct. Some of the late war formations, including Veteran Grenadiers, SS, and Volksgrenadiers, can all form squads of up to 10 men, with any or all of them carrying STG44's.

Unfortunately they will be facing a US squad that includes Captain America.

IRL the various assault and MP platoons, particularly in Volksgrenadier divisions were supposed to be entirely armed with StG44s, although many were just issued MP40s or the late war Sten clone instead.

For painting and selling on for the fun of it quite simply, why not? They would go well I imagine and will be a popular choice for any army. They will get spilt so there's 50/50 in two squads when gaming (optimum casualties vs points)

As for historical accuracy, well know knows. I understand there were some formations that were kitted out very well, but few and far between. Many SS formations barely even saw an STG44 never mind using one actively in combat. However to use them in games now and again (about a 3rd of games) that would be reasonable. A couple in the other games, with maybe tops one unit to have them. I think its about balance so having your guys totting ARs in every game is predictable, boring and just doesn't feel right, although banning them outright would be the other extreme

My FJ have one or two men per section.
My understanding is that Volksgrenadiers can have two sections per platoon with StG44s the 3rd section is riflemen and one or two MG42s as a base of fire element. Of course, they are Volksgrenadiers of quite variable quality & training.

Cool thanks for the information gents.

I would assume that the 10 man unit could also have at least one if not two MG-42s?

Not officially as I understand it. Two squads armed exclusively with Stg44 and one with Kar98 and two MG42s. That's for VG platoons.
Of course, the reality is that anyone who could get their hands on one (and some ammo) would have one.

Also note that the VG squads/sections only numbered eight soldiers at full TO&E strength.

Unfortunately they will be facing a US squad that includes Captain America.

Unfortunately Captain America is broke and had to sell his shield to pay Captain China.
