The Epic Contest of Brugeldamdorfberg A lovely little fictional contest with two divisions and a cavalry division on each side. I had a bit of fun writing up what was otherwise a random pick-up game using our new (to us) rules in C&G2. link |

Nice report. We have tried C&G (and liked the rules)but as we are just the two of us, one of us is a lot computerising (is that a word?). How did it worked out for you? |

That looks like a really excellent game and the scenery is top class. Well done. Regards |

I trust one of the Generals was executed pour encourager leas autres, or perhaps the one who was hors de combat served to mollify the Emperor's displeasure. |

@brownbear In my limited experience it all depends on the number of figures on the table. We had a 1v1 division per side game that went fine
and I've also had 1v1 (after players left) with a corps per side
and the turns bogged way down. If there are enough troops that you have to hunt to find battalion 105 to place a marker (french all look the same!) It slows things down significantly. The ref also doesn't get the full double blind experience, so I'm hoping to train up a few guys so we can rotate. I can put things in pretty quickly at this point, but if you're ref and player 85-90 percent of your time ends up at the computer. |

In recap, I see the French not only had less troops but low on Generals
. Was it this "crack" in the French defense the prussian player exploited to crush the French or was it poor decisions by the Player playing the D'Erlon? Curious! Great Game! I am Finishing up my prussians currently and would like to give this one a go when they are done! MG |

I created the forces to be symmetrical. Points wise the difference was 150 points in favor of the Prussians (roughly 3 line/veteran battalions). The French had exactly 3 less infantry battalions; the french had a quality edge with 6 landwehr bns of the 19 prussian infantry battalions being rated conscripts (~35pts each instead of 50). The french also had twice as many crack infantry (2x bns to 1). The cavalry was all the same except prussia had one more reiment (brigade supports) and the French had one crack unit (7th Hussars). Guns were the same, weight and number/kind of batteries. Prussia had the extra 3 bns of points b/c they were supposed to be assaulting the village with dug in defenders
. general Passage negated this advantage by charging out and attacking the prussians. The french also declined to deploy more troops to their right at the start of the game. In the center 4 prussian bns tied up an entire 8 bn division. The lopsided deployment did give a nice narrative to the write up however and general Passage needed to get home early which likely influenced his aggressive actions as this was a learning game where for most the players. |
