I ordered some Brigade Games Finnish figures and very nice they are. However, when I looked at the Maxim MMGs I find the loaders are designed to load from the left instead of the right! Do figure designers actually research what they are doing?

It's not a total disaster, I can probably cut the loader's arms and reposition them to make it correct, but that's a lot of effort. It's a shame as they are nice figures, but really let down by a glaring mistake. It didn't even register when I looked at the photo on the website. If it had, I wouldn't have bought them. Live and learn.

Maybe someone flipped the photo sent to the sculptor?

I did a quick look and it looks like the Finns had at least 3 different barrel jacket designs in service – smooth, corrugated and corrugated with the large port for snow or water.

I was also wondering if it could be a photo issue.

Next thing you know, you'll want everyone who makes 28s to actually make them all the same size.

face the loader back towards the emeny. problem solved, no cutting required.

Maybe he's UNloading the MG belt? Feeding the spent belt and cartridges back into the box for reloading?

Hilarious.

Place a large mirror alongside the gaming table.
When you refer to the offending unit observe it using the mirror.

Ugh…sometimes, ignorance IS bliss, yes? grin

I certainly don't consider myself a rivet counter, and would happily use a PzIII with a short 50mm as a stand in for a long 50mm and couldn't care less about the different models of T34. This is a bit hard to ignore as I have some Finnish MMGs from another manufacturer who has got it right.

Was the Maxim designed to be loaded from either side? IIRC some MG's could feed from left or right. I'm struggling to find any information to support that though! grin

I'm afraid not. Only the Maxim- Vickers Mk2*b was designed to feed from the left.
But you are absolutely right about MGs that could be loaded from either side. Like the early Hotchkiss for example.

Ambidextrous feed machine guns were usually ones designed for aircraft.
