Is it the GW plastic Mighty Fortress? The Hudson Allen expanded foam kit? The new lazer cut wood set from Sally 4th Miniature Building Authority Building it using the Herst Arts molds? Scratch built using hot wire foam cutters? Consider time, money, quality and any other factors that you think are important. Of course I realize much of this will be subjective but please give your thoughts on this area. |

If time is not the main concern, it's hard to beat Hirst Arts molds. Doug |

I think Hudson&Allen have great products. Excellent detail and decent price. Another one I like is Manorhouse Workshop. Even though made by plaster, the detail is awesome and they are easy to repair if damaged |

link Scroll down a bit, there is a big (modular) manor house in the making. Also a complete set of city walls. It looks great, and I'm awaiting its arrival. Once in production, it will be for sale for everybody who did not support the campaign. Grand Manner also produce lovely stuff. grandmanner.co.uk I'm no fan of lazer cut buildings. |

I've painted a lot of castle sets over the years, and the Hudson and Allen was by far my favourite. One day I'll own one myself -- wargamescenics.com |

I don't think it's totally available yet, but this looks promising: link |

MBA is perhaps the best, but the most expensive. GW Mighty Fortress is best bargain, along with Sally 4th stuff. Hirst Arts would be the best IF you have the time, and IF you have some creativity. I have neither. I have wanted to get some Hudson & Allen pieces, or some Battleground Scenics pieces from Magister Militum. |

Wow! Found some things I was unaware of. I am selling off my Mighty Fortress and some other related items but hope to go with something I like better. I know that Vatican Enterprises will be or at usually are at Historicon so was considering going the Hudson Allen route. Wasslandwarrior those links and the Grand Manor stuff is impressive. Would like to see those plastic kits once they become available. |

There is no besting Sally 4th quality and price way. Fully modular and ever expanding. Choise of prepainted or not ( not everybody wants/can paint everything). Well adjusted to use of figure bases ( wich Hudsson&Allen is not). Let's not forget whe want to wargame with those castles (not just let them be pretty on the background). Ease of transport (do not forget this). GW mighty fortress is far from being a thiny realistic. In general I can agree with Rwphillipsstl |

Manorhouse Workshop's castle looks pretty amazing: link |

Yes Wasslandwarrior provide that link earlier and I agree that seems the best of all worlds. Any idea when it will be available for the general public and how much in US dollars it will cost? I might just hold out for that as it can cover a wide range of periods and genres. |

I made my decision 20 years ago and bought the 1x warhammer castle 1x hadson and allen really big one 1x hadson and allen normal castle 1x elite small castle Later added 1 helms deep 3x minas tirith For 10 years were from huson and allen NO breached walls available
So i never ever played a siege game with them.. 5 years ago i bought a wounderfully build complete dioramma of the city if jerusalem for 1066 as all the stuff above did not fit the bill
. So in the end
. You will never be happy and you need 3m2 to store it all! The only stuff which takes more place than castles in 25mm
. Are fleets in 25mm!!! |

I'm a big fan of my mage-knight castle Picked it up after the mage-knight game imploded just before Heroclix started to be a thing. I have a MASSIVE pile of it
(not my setup, but it just as easily could be) |
rampantlion | 26 May 2014 6:43 a.m. PST |
Hudson and Allen is what I have and I think it is really well done, but going some years back, I wish that I had a Gallia castle. |
kallman | 03 Jun 2014 6:20 p.m. PST |
Rudi makes a somewhat sardonic point about the entire space issue. One reason I am selling off my GW Might Fortresses is that I think since I've had them they have been in two games. However, I hold out hope of doing sieges on a more regular basis. Love the Mage Knight stuff BigNick just not what I am looking for. |

Sally 4th will be releasing a breached wall section as part of the Outremer range for gaming in the Holy Land. This is my favorite fortification at the moment and I have made a fair few over the years. If any one is at the Wartorn convention in Scarborough at the end of the month, I will be taking this terrain along to run Saga Crescent and the Cross participation games on.
