I need average, unarmed villager figs in 25-28mm. Fantasy, Medieval or Renn eras.

Not career-specific (barmaid, blacksmith, grave digger, strumpet, etc.); carrying a load or sweeping is fine, but chopping wood or working a forge will not do.

I have a couple of Reaper Bones that fit the bill, but that's it. Just a couple. I have discovered (but not bought yet) Dwarf Wars 28mm Norvolk unarmed villagers; those look good, and ten is about a third of what I looking for – so help me out finding 20 more. Would definitely prefer a mix of sexes, not male-heavy.

Tossing in a couple same-era, Asian peasant-types would not be out of the question either, as would half-orcs or elves that are not "heroic" in their dress or pose. I can do minor conversions like head swaps, removing weapons or swapping a sword arm for a hand with a mug, so if you see something non-armored, non-dynamic-pose promising except for that helmet or that sword, please link to it anyways.

Thanks for any and all help!

Have you looked at Hasslefree?

Foundry and Warlord have ancient and medieval villagers as well.

Black tree design…

Mardaddy20 May 2014 9:50 p.m. PST

Ack.

Sorry I did not mention I did not want to go broke getting them.

Hasslefree and Foundry are both lovely (I've got a load of grymm myself!), but needing 20 they are FAR outside of my pricerange… these villagers are almost "terrain features" in my planned RPG scenario, not personality types. If I cannot find them at a reasonable price point, I'll go with (shudder) paper stands.

If you mean Warlord Games Pike and Shot… they are rioting villagers, cool, but not what I am looking for.

Eureka has civvies as well

link for black tree design product?

I found pics of them on Google Images, AWESOME. But cannot find the actual PRODUCT on their website.

The Eureka stuff is wonderful – will make some of them a definite buy.

Maybe West Wind or Old Gloru/Blue Moon?

Those are some great options, there.

I think I am set with some Eureka, that Dwarf Wars Norvolk and a couple of those Old Glory Cossack & Romanian sets.

For black tree – check under their Dark Ages stuff – Saxon, Viking and such. They also have some in the Fantasy bits and pieces range – like a butcher. They may have more in other ranges.

Black tree are scattered around the site. Look under dark age vikings, and ancient celts. They easily have more than a dozen men women and children. Often they go on sale.

Mardaddy;
Contact me at battlefield_designs{at}rogers{dot}com. I have sets of 16 villagers left over from a line of unarmed figures that I produced that will fit your bill exactly. I can send you photos as well.
Regards,
Hitman

willthepiper – !!! I checked out your Eureka links and shopped and it was going to be $60 USD+ for 17 figures with the shipping!

I had known for years people have been complaining Eureka needs a US distributor (I among them after I bought some of their figs about ten years ago), I did a search and sure enough – they have a US storefront!

Eureka does have a US distributor. Check them out at eurekaminusa.com
Having said that, I haven't checked my prices, and generally I've found even with shipping it's cheaper to order from the manufacturer in Britain than to order from a US distributor. Of course your mileage may vary, and in any case Eureka is an Australian company.

Reaper's townsfolk set is good for barmaids, etc.

Obelisk Miniatures makes some excellent 19th century Chinatown residents that could easily fit your needs for Asian civilians/villagers:

Prices might be a deal-breaker, but the following companies produce some really beautiful and characterful civilians.

Lead Adventure's Bruegelburg Miniatures: link

Alionas: link

Fenryll: link

I especially like Fenryll's Female Villagers and Farmers:

They're attractive without being ridiculously over-endowed.

saltflats192921 May 2014 10:29 a.m. PST

Those villages would certainly be pillaged.

The Fenryll figures seem quite nice. How do they compare sizewise with Foundry, Old Glory and West Wind 28mm figures?

darclegion21 May 2014 1:37 p.m. PST

I like the female scrubbing the floor…nice

jpattern221 May 2014 7:04 p.m. PST

Bobgnar, I have the farmgirl pack. The girl with the rake over her shoulder is 38mm from the bottom of the base to the top of her head, 33mm from the soles of her feet to the top of her head. (Fenryll bases are integral with the figures.) Needless to say, Fenryll minis tend to be on the tall side. I think they scale well with (most) Copplestone, the old Rackham Confrontation minis, and newer Reaper. They tower over my Foundry minis.

Mardaddy22 May 2014 9:09 a.m. PST

Those Chinatown Obelisk civilians and merchant sets are keen, I'd have to REALLY think about it at $43 USD for 10 figs… its outside my price range, but they are very nice and I might jump anyways just for the uniqueness of them.

For a 30-crowd of RPG "bystanders" that I know I will use for one scenario, and may or may not be able use again in full quantity, I hesitate to shell out upwards of $90 USD-$120 total incl ship.

I do not have a problem with the quality, and do not begrudge sculptors or retailers trying to make a buck to pay their rent and feed their families.

At the same time, I have to consider my TOTAL outlay and re-use potential to ensure I get value for my cash.

I am SURE it is something we all have to do and I am not alone in that regard.

cplcampisi22 May 2014 6:09 p.m. PST

Mirliton in Italy makes some nice medieval civilians.

mirliton.it

For some reason they're listed under accessories. Also take a look at their "diorama kits" -- they've got some impressive sets in there, although they may be a bit more specific than what you are looking for (Duke's Banquet, Tavern, etc.).

They also have some miniatures under the renaissance section, that represent a "soccer pageant" -- there are some interesting miniatures in there (I appreciate the university officials in robes), but it's for some sort of processional diorama, and the poses are all very stiff and wooden looking.

Henry Martini24 May 2014 2:50 a.m. PST

If you don't mind doing conversions and cutting off weapons, the Old Glory Revolting Peasants range is certainly inexpensive – and there is one pack of peasants looting and pillaging that might be more adaptable.

TwinMirror24 May 2014 6:56 a.m. PST

perfect peasants and townsfolk at midlam miniatures, such as:

and reasonably priced, too. all from:

Freak from Vienna25 May 2014 3:10 a.m. PST

I don't thhink you'll be able to get the Obelisk Miniatures stuff. In January, Josef Ochmann announced on LAF that he'd be closing shop by January 31st. (So far, he just set everything to unavailable instead of taking down the web store.)

He did say the line would be up for sale, but I'm not aware of anyone having picked it up (yet).

TwinMirror25 May 2014 11:16 a.m. PST

It's perhaps interesting to note that the Midlam Miniatures peasants and townsfolk in my previous post are, like the obelisk minis, sculpted by Josef Ochmann – from when he worked for Metal Magic aeons ago.

It's worth exploring all of Midlam's adventuring folk ranges, as several figures useable as civilians can be found under adventures, bards, etc, such as:

picture

It's a great range, but if you need even more, Redoubt Enterprises has several ranges containing suitable figures (also at a good price), such as these from the Body's Bits line:

picture

and these from the renaissance extras range:

picture

as well as lots of suitable ones in their Pirates and Three Musketeers ranges.
