At the end of last year Pendraken did a not-Kickstarter to fund a new range of Mongols. I went in for at least 1 of all the codes!

These are my first 10 bases of figures, with a couple of command stands

I have really enjoyed painting these, and am pleased with how they have come out. I have tried to go for a dried steppe look for the bases, using a mix of different basing materials.

Really beautiful Fred, and the bases look great as well. Closer pics?

I was just sorting out some more cropped photos

Excellent job. I have the Kallistra Mongols, which are very nice. Does anyone know how the Pendraken figures match up for size?

fred12df20 May 2014 1:10 p.m. PST

I don't have the kallistra Mongols but I do have a fair number of their other figures, and the kallistra ones are generally a lot bigger then Pendraken historical ranges. And kallistra cavalry are even bigger again – then Pendraken mongols are quite small, partly due to their small ponies.

Thanks fred12df. I do have some older Pendraken figures, but recently bought a lot of their new League of Augsburg range ( beautiful figures!) and the cavalry are significantly larger than their old WSS range. In fact, I played with them on Sunday and one guy thought they were 15mm, so I wondered if the new Mongol range had shown the same "scale creep".

I've got LoA figures too, so will try to do some comparison shots in the next couple of days.

Oooh, nice!

You painted the heck :) out of them Fred, very impressed and that basing sets them up beautifully. What rules are you using BTW? Cheers

Beautiful formations! I like your arrangement.

I use a lot of Pendraken and have mixed them with Kallistra in Chinese, Turkish, and Muscovite 10mm armies. The differences in size don't offend my eyes in what are mean to be irregular units. I'm doubtless a foot taller than some posters on this board, and I've known two men who towered over me.

Thanks chaps

Rules wise Hail Caesar works well to represent highly mobile and flighty horse archers. We are currently working on some home brew rules, and evasion and reactions are included.

The strategic skills of the Mongols are perhaps better represented in the scenario setup?

Excellent work – still painting mine

What size are those bases?
