Fun to see someone making the sort of samurai armour that has been inspired by western armour. It seems under-represented, probably due to sheer exotism. |

I keep hoping that the 45 degree standing Yari Ashigaru will come back in stock at some point |

@Henrix I agre in fact other than Kingsford its only Steel Fist that I have seen make models with western inspired Samurai Armour. |

This is the second namban-gusoku I've done for Kingsford.
This is the first one I did, inspired by the set owned by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Note that the figure has two katana. You have the option of having the figure wave a commander's warfan instead.
This samurai has armour representing a naked monk's torso:
Note that the ninja in the pic in the first post has claws attached to each palm. The ball and chain is a separate piece and can be attached anyway you want it.

Super work, EValerio! Is there any chance that Hattori Hanzo might be in the queue? At least his helmet and spear are said to exist: link |

Not working on Hattori Hanzo, but this is what I could find. I think this is his helmet:
I am not sure if this is the spear in question:

The spear looks like a long bladed Yari. Am I right in thinking that helmet isn't complete? Since it is missing the guards at the back and sides. |
EValerio | 21 May 2014 2:13 a.m. PST |
The helmet is missing the shikoro (neckguard). The uppermost lame seem to be attached. I don't know if it's lost or deliberate. Helmets without shikoro were used. Illustration in RK books show Teppo Tai (archers and arquebusiers) of Red Devil Kimata Morikatsu wearing helmets without shikoro. There are at least two arquebusier reenactment groups in Japan today whose members seem to wear helmets without shikoro. A helmet lacking the shikoro could be worn under a cowl. It would be compact and 'quieter' without the neckguard making noise while on the move. In a series of photographs with a reenactor depicting how Uesugi Kenshin might have looked like in armour, a kabuto can be seen underneath his monk's cowl. Given how compact the cowl is, the helmet did not have the shikoro attached. Kenshin did own an elaborate helmet without a neckguard, that was worn on top of a monk's cowl. |

Thank you for the information. Do you have those photographs? That would be great to see. |

I am working on bringing out a unit builder pack of ashigaru with yari at 45 degrees. These will have four identical figs and no sashimono for a very low price while stocks last. I will make an announcement once they are ready for sale but that is not for awhile yet. David kingsfordminiatures.org

Please share the infomation when you do. I have been hoping to try out some Kingsford models for some time and that pack would be the perfect way to do so. I have been trying to do a size comparison shot of as many Samurai models as I can in order to help people getting into Samurai but sadly Kingsford are missing from my collection. |
