I have a question. This would be my plan: to get various WW1 figures in 1/72 plastic, mainly Strelets and HAT and turn them into Russian Civil War armies.I am not picky about accuracy .If I like the minis, everything goes:British,Austrians or any other. I would need to take away their original helmets and caps, and turn them into budenovkas,Adrian helmets and Russian army hats. How would you do that? is there a way I could do it in a fast and uniform way,a sort of "printing" using other 1/72 hat or helmet as a model? I have no experience in sculpting and am too old a dog for learning new trick.Any idea is appreciated. |

If you are not picky, just use WWI French for guys in Adrian helmets. |

Fur hats are easy to make with epoxy 'green stuff'. It helps that the historical hats were irregular in shape. |

Budenovkas were the exception, not the rule in the Red Army, and quite late even for those that did appear. Flat caps, like in WWI, were the norm for infantry and most cavalry. And fur hats aren't hard at all to sculpt if you want them with greatcoat troops. Helmets were rare for RCW Russians. Don't bother with them. Just use WWI Russians, and paint them with mixed uniform colours. Shave off the shoulderboards for Reds though. |
