Saw it via Netflix (no Imax, no 3D) last night and it's fine. Yes, the German tanks are wrong and there is a preposterous scene of flaming Russian infantry carrying out an assault but otherwise there's much to enjoy here.

The combat scenes are well choreographed, plentiful and nicely paced throughout. Especially the hand-to-hand fights which are staged like 300 in style (nothing wrong with that) and the images throughout are crisp, clear and colorful. This is a story small in scope: platoon/company level and I found I liked many of the characters and the simple plot. Even the romances seemed organic instead of artificial appendages.

I'm not a WW2 expert on any aspect but it looked mostly right to me, uniforms, etc. Spectacularly visual film, beautifully shot. That won't be enough for everyone but it was good enough for me.

3.5/5

I didn't even realise it had been and gone in the cinema.

The Russians have a lot of good films on WW2. Sadly not translated.

Bloody, captures the "feel" of the battle. The Soviets coming out of the fire blew me away!!!

"Come and See" is another Russian WWII film worth seeing,
extremely grim though.
