I know it varys sometime from battle to battle and unit to unit ,but Im looking for an average number for both Mexican and US regiments ? Ex: 500 men per regiment ? Is there a source for this kind of thing ? |

The problem with the Mexican army is that the field strengths varied significantly (and changed drastically for the same units within a matter of weeks), ranging from battalions with less than 50 men to regiments of 1,500 plus. The Mexicans also converged survivors of different regiments into ad hoc battalions. I think you would be more accurate making 800 man regiments, that way you can do the 700-900 man regiments that appear fairly often. You can also split it in half and do the 300-500 man regiments. For the 1,500 man regiments you will need more troops or you will have to combine two 800 man regiments. Part of the issue will be the figure scale/rules you will be using. Are you actually going to represent all of those two dozen to 150 man battalions, or are you going to combine them all into 300-400 man regiments. |
