For the Crown, I would have to go with the 23 Welch Fusiliers. They seemed to be in the thick of almost everything. Historically, I vote for them.

For war gaming, I have to go with the 71 St Highlanders for obvious reasons. A vital unit to have for the War in the South.

Your choice?

The Ethiopian Regiment

'true sons of the mayflower' regiment.

Many of the Loyalist units, both regular and militia, are worth a look.

The Queen's Rangers. My mother was born in Simcoe Township, so there's a tenuous connection at least.

The Brunswick Dragoons on dismounted service with their muskets and heavy broadswords.

The Buffs. One of the first units I ever painted, way back in the last century. Hand painted flags!
My favorite Hessian unit is Rall. No "Von". Grenadiers that aren't. I like the way this unit is an exception to so many rules.

Favorite Loyalist unit is de Lancey in pimp hats. One of my first conversions, with green stiff plumes on Hinchliffe continentals.

Browne's King's Rangers. I have read a great book on them and did additional research as well. Many of the Scots migrated to Alabama and west Georgia after the war.

Supercilius Maximus15 May 2014 5:11 a.m. PST

I think it has to be the Composite Brigade of Foot Guards – two battalions, plus a section of 6-pdrs, and retained its flank companies.

Captain dEwell15 May 2014 6:02 a.m. PST

I agree with RudyNelson – Browne's King's Rangers.

mjkerner15 May 2014 6:36 a.m. PST

Butler's Rangers for me, Bill.

Generalstoner4915 May 2014 7:15 a.m. PST

For the Crown's regiment I have to say the 4th foot.

If we are adding Hessians and loyalists then Von Donop's and the Queens Rangers respectively.

Bill N15 May 2014 7:40 a.m. PST

At the moment 71st.

The 10th Regiment of foot. I had an ancestor in it during the war.
OK I said "for a long while", 24hrs is enough.

bruntonboy15 May 2014 2:24 p.m. PST

British legion for me, cool uniforms. Foot and horse, controversial commander and plenty of action to reproduce.

rmaker15 May 2014 7:23 p.m. PST

King's Royal Regiment of New York, aka Johnson's Greens – the other family outfit.

Ironwolf16 May 2014 3:17 a.m. PST

The 33rd, Cornwallis knew how to take care of his men.

comte de malartic16 May 2014 4:05 a.m. PST

The 23rd. Sergeant Lamb was allowed to transfer to this regiment after he escaped from captivity. He thought it was the best.

spontoon16 May 2014 4:41 p.m. PST

Jessup's Corps.

epturner17 May 2014 5:22 a.m. PST

Tough choice. I'm inclined to go with the 44th Regiment.

Long service in North America.

28th Foot…As they turned into the Glosters!!!

redcoat18 May 2014 2:05 p.m. PST

33rd Regiment. Supposedly known as 'The Pattern'. Enough said.

Virginia Tory23 May 2014 5:23 a.m. PST

A tough one.

I like the Light Infantry. They got to do all the fun stuff (and that would include Ferguson's company).

63rd Foot. Fought all the way from Bunker Hill to Eutaw Springs.

Supercilius Maximus26 May 2014 10:17 p.m. PST

Including as mounted infantry in the South.

They also had an officer named Captain Bent Ball.

Gnu200027 May 2014 5:59 a.m. PST

And green facings do look rather good on a red coat :-)
I'm just pulling together the forces for Hobkirk's Hill so I'm hoping they don't let the side down!

Testiculies05 Jun 2014 12:28 p.m. PST

42nd foot, of course.

Supercilius Maximus07 Jun 2014 9:48 a.m. PST

Surprised there aren't more QR votes –

Grenadiers, Lights, Highlanders, Centre Companies, Riflemen (occasionally mounted), Hussars, Dragoons, Artillery; a little army all in one. Plus you get to team them up with Ewald's Jaeger, mounted Loyalist riflemen, and Emmerich's hussars.

epturner10 Jun 2014 6:36 p.m. PST

Well, I suppose. Not proper Soldiers, being in green and all. I mean, Loyalist bits and things.

But the Essex lads grin of the 44th, now, there's a steady battalion…

With some tongue firmly in cheek…

Eric
