I know different colours are painted to tell different types of round apart, but
1. What are they?
2. Are they the same for tanks, anti-tank guns, artillery (I.e if he is yellow, is this the same for all types and calibers?

Thanks

Leigh

Basic was HE yellow, smoke green, AP black, but there was a variety of different coloured bands used to more specifically denote the type.

Lots of detailed info on British ammo: nigelef.tripod.com/ammo.htm

The British used a lot of US guns which usually came with US ammo and thus has the US colour scheme.

The PIAT fires a hollow charge bomb so they are explosive however the yellow band on an AP shell seems to indicate a practice round.
