I got my Empress Devil Dogs a while back and am only now getting around to cleaning and painting them. Does anyone know if the modern Marine would ever wear a mixture of their Marpat uniforms? That is to say, Woodland tops with Desert bottoms, or vice versa. I have a feeling this will be a big no-no, but I would rather have someone with experience tell me. In the mountains of Afghanistan do they wear Desert or Woodland? As for gear. Is all issued gear, such as mag pouches, hydration packs, rucks, and various MOLLE pouches, that darker Coyote Tan (English Uniform looks like a good VMC color)? Or is there a good amount of Marpat gear issued, or personally purchased and worn? Does anyone know what Vallejo Air Color or Model Color is a good match for MRAPs? |

USMC generally doesn't mix shirts and pants of different camo styles. Special units like 1st Recon might, but then agian they may wear different camo styles like AOR altogether. USMC in Afghanistan wears Desert MARPAT, I don't think I've ever seen anyone using Woodland MARPAT. Pouches, vests, and other gear is generally Coyote Brown. Again, for more independent units this can be sidderent, but normal grunts have normal regulations ;) |

Pentex, "Does anyone know if the modern Marine would ever wear a mixture of their Marpat uniforms?" No, not that I ever saw or heard of (sorry Cherno, not even Recon). "In the mountains of Afghanistan do they wear Desert or Woodland?" Either, up to unit commander, but whole unit would be wearing the same. Out east there were units in green and desert, everywhere else was primarily desert. Sometimes Marine units would wear the opposite of Army units when turning over with them (i.e., if a Marine unit was replacing an Army unit wearing tri-color desert uniforms, the Marines would wear green until the Army left). We did that in Iraq too. "Is all issued gear, such as mag pouches, hydration packs, rucks, and various MOLLE pouches, that darker Coyote Tan?" Depends on when you're talking about. Early in the war everybody had woodland camo Interceptors and deuce gear*, but camelbacks were green. Camelbaks could see a lot of different colors because a lot of guys had bought their own before they were issued with the MOLLE gear. In '04 and '05 a lot of guys were wearing different colored vests (load bearing vests, not Interceptors, with 8 million ammo pouches built in), which they'd purchased themselves, but the Corps kinda cracked down on that and, by the end of '05 pretty much all Marine units in Iraq and Afghanistan had brown Interceptors and deuce gear. "Special units like 1st Recon might, but then agian they may wear different camo styles like AOR altogether." I never saw or heard of anyone wearing different camo patterns, but Recon did start the trend of wearing "combat jammies" (both flightsuits and then the modified cammie blouses that had MARPAT sleeves but were Underarmor on the torso, which regular line units also adopted (I think this was around '07). *I refer to the load-bearing equipment as 'deuce gear,' but in reality, by that time deuce gear had been replaced by MOLLE gear. I hope this helps. V/R, Jack |

The uniforms are worn to match the year. Desert for winter and the woodlands for summer, thats as per MARREGs from 2008, it could have changed but thats what I recall, before that it was Desert cammies for the desert and Woodlands for everything else, now say Marines fight in a jungle area again then it would be without a doubt be Woodlands. The Marine Special Ops guys I've seen have been wearing regular Marine Corps cammies but also have been wearing the new Army digitals. And no they would never mix uniforms lifers would drop from heart attacks if they saw that. |
