Yeah, BFE was a total flop. The miniatures and vehicles were advertised as 25mm/28mm, but were closer to 20mm. The paint jobs were not very good either and they're pricey. Glad I never bought into it. |

The rules weren't that bad. |

Agree about the rules being good ,got a ww2 version too. Gave models I had to my lad and his mates so did not lose out much on them. Battlefield evolution was a nice idea but as pointed out here scale and model quality let it down unfortunately. Still kept the rules .

The pre-painted figures weren't as bad as many suggest and were actually true proportioned 25mm, so looked small against the chunkier 28/32's (and way to big to be 20mm's). The vehicles were good (Warrior, Challenger, M1's) average (Chinese APC, tank and FAV, Shadow, Tunguska) and bad (MEA Technicals) and the size wandered around a bit – my Warriors and Challenger 2's match up to within a few MM of 1/72 model kits, but my M1's are way bigger than a 1/72 (could be my 1/72 kits are off). The rules were OK, but had some odd rules around cover, obscurement and damage soak. You can pick up the vehicles and figures for a song on Ebay these days – look for auctions by Altsain (Mongoose Matt in disguise) |

I own a copy of the rules. They played fine (the two times I did get a chance to play Bevo (we are not men, we are Bevo)). Shame they didn't support the miniatures very well, even if they were overpiced and poorly painted
they still were ready to use out of the box. Can still find cheap boxes on eBay at times. auction |

For those that don't do ebay, the Challenger and Abrams are still available for about $8 USD directly from Mongoose (plus shipping). link Rob |

Battlefield Evolution got me started in wargaming. I can't paint, so the pre-painted figures were good enough for me. I soon discovered other and better rules, but still have a lot of their vehicles and figures. They match up nicely with the Corgi Desert Storm diecast vehicles, Forces of Valour helicopters and Matchbox humvees. Ah, nostalgia. Mike |

I got some for AK47. Here's some, straight out of the box (aprt from basing), if I remember correctly. They didn't seem too bad to me.

Agree about the rules being good: The rules were certainly the highlight of this game – derived from Starship Troopers, and we have continued developing them to today. A skirmish version is behind Judge Dredd, and we are working another game using their core rules now. Model quality let it down unfortunately: I have to say, we set a high mark, and it was missed. The pre-painted figures weren't as bad as many suggest: The Brit, US and Chinese infantry could have been better. The Arab faction, I think, was not too bad at all (sold well), and the second wave vehicles, considering they were pre-paints, were very nice – the Warrior in particular. Look for auctions by Altsain (Mongoose Matt in disguise): Be quick though – we sold the last of the Type-99s earlier this week, have just a handful of Challengers, and not many more Abrams. Infantry are long gone. Battlefield Evolution got me started in wargaming: That is probably the best thing I have ever heard someone say about this game. Much appreciated Sir, and i hope it has led you to bigger and better things in the hobby! |
