PanzerGrenadier Deluxe WW2 rules are now available! PanzerGrenadier Deluxe rules cover company to battalion sized actions, (where players field sections and platoons as their tactical units), providing straight forward yet comprehensive rules for WW2 tactical combat. [URL=http://s204.photobucket.com/user/dcrbrown/media/PanzerDxCover_final2_zps0faea53d.jpg.html]
[/URL] PanzerGrenadier Deluxe is a very different game to its predecessor and distinct from other existing rule sets. The central theme of the rules is tactical command and control. This emphasis on command requires players to plan ahead, use period tactics such as combined arms to overcome the enemy and genuinely think about the command challenges before them. When playing PanzerGrenadier each army operates under a specific military doctrine which impacts upon the command flexibility players are able to exercise. Your HQ units are important; as you'll find those units under command operate reasonably well, whereas those units out of command will drain your command of its vital HQ Impetus. And once you're at zero your turn could end at any moment! Players will not be able to see every enemy unit and attacking forces will need to use reconnaissance effectively; both commands will need to consider their deployments and allocation of reserves and have their commanders in the right place at the right time in order to exploit combat opportunities and achieve battlefield success! [/URL] The rules span 248 pages in full colour and provide fast, simple yet "wargame" realistic mechanisms that produce a much quicker style of play allowing players to concentrate far more on commanding their troops and playing the game. Advanced rules are incorporated into the body of the main rules so can easily be used. Also included are numerous optional rules, such as Russian commissars, demolition vehicles, river crossings, etc; three introductory scenarios, an extensive points system including easy to use standard platoon costings and extensive and detailed TOE's covering Germany, Russia, Britain and the United States. PanzerGrenadier Deluxe can be used with 10-12mm, 15mm or 20mm figures (or even 28mm figures can be used) and can be played at either a 1:3 figure ratio or a 1:1 figure ratio. No rebasing needed. Quick reference sheet, unit status markers and artillery template are also provided. Available this week from Caliver Books at £35.00 GBP Finally, the excellent WW2 artwork of Chris Collingwood adorns both the front and rear hardback covers. DB |

David, Is there some place I can go to to learn more about the mechanics of the game? I've been tempted to buy your rules but would like to know a bit more about them. |

AH, A detailed AAR, including a description of the game mechanics as they are used is currently being put together. It will be hosted over on the General de Brigade forum and I'll post a link here as well. DB |

Thanks David! The previous version was my go to ruleset after I became disenchanted with FoW. |

How about multi-player play? |
Ned Ludd | 13 May 2014 12:07 p.m. PST |
I have been waiting for these! How many tanks to a troop squadren though? I was planing to use them for north Africa so tanks will be major part of games. |

Good luck with the rules. |

Since I have I and II, both bought after development for Deluxe started, why should I drop down this hole again, or is Duluxe II already in development and I should wait. Sorry, but this has happened to me way, way too often. It would be nice if you could go to a library and read a set so have to keep buying blind. |
David Brown | 14 May 2014 2:15 a.m. PST |
Ned L, An average tank platoon is up to four AFVs. A British tank squadron could be pretty large, e.g. Armoured Squadron, each with: 2x Command Sherman II/III/V 75mm Medium Tank 4x Sherman II/III/V 75mm Medium Tank 2x Sherman Ic/Vc Firefly 17pdr Medium Tank So, that would work out to two platoons, each with a command and Firefly. (Though obviously not in North Africa!) DB |

Marc33594 Yes the rules are good for multi player. We use the current/old set regularly with 4 players a side [I have run games with 8 per side]. The new set improves the multi player viability |
kabrank | 14 May 2014 3:46 a.m. PST |
thomally We have been playing since I was published and moved to II when it was released 5+ years later and have been playing II for 5+ years and are now moving to the Delux version [ordered already] I suspect that there will not be another version for at least 5+ years. I know how you feel regarding rule churn having been caught myself with other sets but 5+ years between revisions is pretty good, particularly as each revision has contained very worth while changes and improvements. No need to upgrade if you are happy with II for your games but going for the Delux version now gives you 5+ years of play of that set! |

Thanks for that kabrank. May have to give this a look. |
Ned Ludd | 14 May 2014 10:59 a.m. PST |
Thanks. I will pick up a copy at Triples I think and go 20mm for the most part. What size tables are recommended for 200 games? |
Dave Ryan | 14 May 2014 11:03 a.m. PST |
Chaps, if you are in the UK you can indeed order a copy through inter library loan.- as you can any set of rules I'd rather sell your your own but as an (ex) librarian let me blow a trumpet for a dying concern |

248 pages..! Is there lots of data charts ? |
kabrank | 15 May 2014 2:19 a.m. PST |
Hi Deedles No there are not lots of charts [but there are some as you would expect] The rule book covers the whole war and includes lots of careful explanation of the rules, hence the page count. It also includes some scenarios The QRS is only 4 pages and once you have played the rules a couple of times then this covers what you need to regularly refer to during the game [one of the reasons we adopted this set]. The rule book is then used when you have queries etc. I hope this helps |
kabrank | 16 May 2014 8:46 a.m. PST |
Received my copy yesterday [great service by Caliver]. Very high quality book with good new ToE sections and at least 1 new Scenario. Looks very good and well worth the money. Hoping to have time over the weekend to give it a good read through ready for next weeks game. |
Callen D | 17 May 2014 3:27 a.m. PST |
I ve played a couple of games under these rules now and I think the exploitation phase is a fantastic way of breaking the I go you go game play common in this genre |
Callen D | 17 May 2014 6:26 a.m. PST |
Yes Marc the rule set is ideally suited to multiplayer as command structure is key and these roles can be given to other players. You can give extra players another battle group or make the sub commanders in the already existing battle group |
Gennorm | 17 May 2014 11:59 a.m. PST |
1:1 battalion level would seem to need a big table for 28mm, even for 10 or 15mm in fact. 6mm would appear the ideal scale so I'm curious as to why it isn't mentioned. |
Callen D | 18 May 2014 8:08 a.m. PST |
In my opinion 15mm is perfect size for this game. Battle group is adequately catered for on 6 by 4 table. This leaves command and control concept vital but still means your section with smgs can make the difference if deployed and used correctly. But as with GdB the command focus is key and that works at all sizes |
David Brown | 19 May 2014 2:37 a.m. PST |
The rules offer two figure scales; 1:3 and 1:1. Using the standard 1: 3 with 28mm's players would probably be using a company+, whereas with 15mm and 10/12mm at least a couple of companies up to a battalion+. (At 1:1 the action drops a command level, so you'd be fielding platoons rather than companies.) As Mr Callen says a 6 x 4 table is fine for 15mm. The PanzerGrenadier Kursk game put on by Loughton Strike Force was roughly 10 x 6, with easily well over a battalion of Germans plus armour assets fielded alone. link DB |

The order of battles included in this publication are fantastic. |
