Hello! We are a studio from China and we design gamerules. This is our new miniature "Anglo-Saxon Fyrd" in 15mm, metal. It contains 10 different postures.

we would like to hear you suggestions

LorenzoMele12 May 2014 3:20 a.m. PST

Have you a website to sell them?

Sobieski12 May 2014 3:25 a.m. PST

They look good. Have you considered making 10mm figures too? There's less competition from established companies, and many periods as yet not available at all.

Frank Wang12 May 2014 3:25 a.m. PST

to LorenzoMele:

im planning the website now.so far we place the miniatures on TaoBao,something like ebay but only viewed by chinese.

by the way, how do you think of these?

Frank Wang12 May 2014 3:34 a.m. PST

to Sobieski:

well the fact is Chinese wargaming players hardly play any other game but warhammer.
making these historical minis is risky to me. cause i worried day and night about selling them to the chinese.

15mm and 10mm, which is more popular in your place?

Sobieski12 May 2014 3:40 a.m. PST

10mm here, but I'm in Bangkok, so I represent a tiny market. But there'd be some international demand for 10mm Aztecs, for instance (nobody makes them), or a good range of ancient Chinese (couldn't you market Ch'in and Han in their home country?).

Frank Wang12 May 2014 4:53 a.m. PST

to Sobieski:
no im afried

Sobieski12 May 2014 5:16 a.m. PST

Well, let me know if you ever do either of the ranges I've mentioned, won't you?

WCTFreak12 May 2014 5:27 a.m. PST

65 miniatures + bases for 18 GBP ? thats nice !

Go with 15mm. Although there is more competition, there are several games requiring only small armies so customers always add/replace/upgrade.

I brought in some new Romans in 15mm 2 years ago and everyone said "oh no, more Romans?" Well, guess what, they're one of my best selling ancients ranges in 15mm…..

I have just started a Saxon army in 15mm and am looking at Donnington, Black Hat, Khurasan and Splintered Light. Might have to add some of yours once they are available!

Like Extra Crispy says. The more 15mm Saxons in different poses the better. Gamers like to model the "irregular" look of the shield wall. It looks like you have some pretty good poses to accomplish this. Stick with 15mm. It's what you already have.

50-60 cents for a foot figure is what i expect to pay in 15mm. 18GBP for 65 figures is a little cheaper so you are in the right price range.

to Sobieski:
sure

Frank Wang12 May 2014 6:56 a.m. PST

To WCTFreak:
Yes. compare to most of metal 15mm,i think mines are the cheapest.

Frank Wang12 May 2014 7:28 a.m. PST

To Extra Crispy:
i casted 10000 of them.
are you a retailer?

Frank Wang12 May 2014 7:33 a.m. PST

to Who asked this joker:
i like shield wall and i did see some of darkage figures do that.
but im afraid my fryd cant do that cause their shields are a little bit small.
next time when i sculpting saxon men i would try that.

I think perhaps you misunderstood.

It's the fact you have different figures that will hopefully mix well with other manufacturers. Gamers will invariably want to purchase irregulars from several different companies. If you can make your figure available in Europe and the USA and Canada, I am sure you will get some buyers.

BTW, warriors in a actual shieldwall would look really nice!

To Arms

Don't produce figures on a random basis Your initial choice is good Asking people what they want on a website like this is a good idea but may not be accurate Excited Fans of certain period or types will request figures to suit their needs but not that of the larger gaming population

I would suggest that you get your website up and going as quickly as possible When that is dome put a link here and on other sites likes telling people you are ready.

On your website you can then run various polls showing first the type of figures you can produce and ask viewers to vote on which ones they would buy.

To start off you may also want to give a little discount or some extra figures to customers who preorder. This gives you some operating money as well. You must then be able to complete the orders as quickly as possible and get your figures out.

Personally I would really like to see a manufacturer do a series of figures based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms ( 三国时代 )say concentrating as seen in the Red Cliff movies.

to Toronto48:
thank you for your advice.

I would suggest to stick to 15mm scale, AFAIK it seems more populare than 10mm.
There are no 15mm three kingdom miniatures, it could be a good selling range.
Also Sung dynasty ranges on the market are all very old (25+ years), it could be a good niche.
I'm an ancient player, and I see there is a huge number of western armies, romans and the like, but relatively few chinese and asian ranges. You could cover that.

Marshal Mark12 May 2014 2:05 p.m. PST

Can you get them painted cheaply in China? Selling them painted might be something to think about.
It's probably too late for this advice but I wouldn't have thought Anglo-saxon would be that popular a range. Dark ages in 28mm is popular at the moment but not so much in the smaller scales. I suspect because large dark ages battles can be a bit static and not as interesting as other periods.

Renaud S12 May 2014 5:11 p.m. PST

Hello, I tried to contact you on Tabao. I live in Peking, speak/ write Chinese and may have a few ideas to share with you. Best, Renaud/ 何诺。

Frank Wang12 May 2014 7:22 p.m. PST

@Marshal Mark:
selling prepainted is no problem for me but price based on painting quality.
so, what do you mean by "painting cheaply"? for example paint 1 15mm in China is normally about 1 us dollar, is that cheap?
