What do you use, how large, and how do you base your 1/600 ironclads?

I don't use any.

I use magnetic vinyl with texture put on and painted. That way they don't get damaged in transport. Size of bases just a little larger than the ships.

Nada.

I put mine on a thick base, at least 1/8" and try to get the players to handle the base rather than the model. It is 1/4" wider/longer than the model. For our purposes, again to protect the models, if the bases touch we have a potential collision or ram.

I too place mine on 1/8" think magnetic bases which are then textured in the appropriate water tone.

I don't base mine either. If I did, though, I would use thin metal bases about 1" x 1/2" bigger than the ship, to give me room to put ship data, etc., on it.

I use 1.5mm plywood. The base is 0.5mm larger than the model to fore and aft, and to each side (as per the rules -SOTW). I find that bases help to protect the model in storage and during transport.

Styrene sheets a a bit larger than the model. I texture the top with woodland scenics flex paste and model waves and wakes before it dries.

Helps protect the models.
