I just read the rules for altar of war and have a few questions/clarifications? The rules look good but I just wanted to clear some things up before I play a game 1. After combat , in the next phase can a unit just disengage and flank around the unit it was perviously attacking? seems unthematic, unless I'm reading something wrong, but all units have 360 degree movement. 2. Other than the +1 modifier for rallying, why even bring generals up to battle as command radius in infinite? 3. Shooting with infantry seems almost pointless, if most result allow you to simply push a unit back two base depths, and they get to defensive fire first, why even do it? The unit can then just assault you next turn most likely? 4. For generals personality traits aggressive, and cautious, What does the +1 or -1 to initiative rolls each turn referring too? the turn clock roll off? |

1. A disengaging unit has to move directly out of the ZOC of the defending unit. And while the rules specifically say you can't slip across the front of an enemy unit to attack another target, I would suggest that the spirit of this rule prohibits the kind of maneuver you mention. 2. Some personality traits require the general to be within a certain distance of a unit in order to provide a benefit. 3. For one, you want to disrupt an enemy's line through fire so as to possibly affect supporting units when you do go to close combat. It can also force your opponent to change their priority point distribution in subsequent turns as they now need to activate the affected division in order to dress their lines. Otherwise, if you have the initiative over your opponent you can hit his disrupted line before he can recover. 4. Yes, that is correct. It is applied at the beginning of the turn when rolling to see who "owns" the clock for that turn. This +1/-1 is in addition to any priority points committed for the initiative roll. |
