I have recently finished up building and painting a Hellenistic Spartan army for a mate. Images and the army list we used have been posted on the blog if anyone is interested. link Cheers! |

Beautiful. Baccus? I can think of no other army to better display 6mm than Hellenistics. Very nice work indeed. |

Love your scheme for differentiating between the classes of the pike blocks. Outstanding work! |

That is a beautifully painted and based army, Harry! May it serve your friend well. Cheers, Scott |

Cheers gents. Yes, the figures are all Baccus and I agree, Hellenistic armies are made for 6mm scale. |

I love this scale. What a brilliant job of painting. Bravo. |

Incredible but
an incredible shame of those concrete blocks of bases. It's about the figures, not the bases. How can one put so much effort in making/painting an incredible (difficult to paint) army and destroy it all with the bases ? Every base is as high as any infantry

. Nice painting and positioning (I especially like how the pikes look), but I tend to agree with the above quote. I suppose it would help if the terrain was exactly the same color as the bases, but their height is pretty obvious from many viewing angles. MH |

Great looking army! I have to disagree about the bases, they look great, as a "gaming" army and in 6mm, you really do need thicker bases to protect the troops, or the figures will end up broken or best case you will end up with spaghetti pike blocks! Steve |

Having played against Harry's other 6mm troops I can say that the height of the bases isnt as bad as people think. On the table you dont notice the height. I think the photos are distorting it a bit |

While I understand what Belgian and Hinds are saying, I have to disagree. The bases are 3mm magnetised mdf so they are half the height of the standing figures, but I find that it's the only way to safely transport and play with the figures without any breakages. I've been using my Seleukids (based the same way) an awful lot since before Christmas and never suffered a break or even a bent figure. |

Thick bases is the way to go. Here's mine:
I should magnetise them someday. |

It's the conventional way, but not the only way. I have been using thin, light-weight bases for 6mm for 40 years. Although I don't usually have as many figures on mine as you do, I have enough experience with them to know that it would work just as well for larger numbers. I assume you have seen this thread: theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=340499 I fully respect your basing decision, but I want prospective newcomers to 6mm to realize that there are other options as well. but I find that it's the only way to safely transport and play with the figures without any breakages. but I want prospective newcomers to 6mm to realize that there are other options as well. Absolutely. All my 6mm figures are based on mount board – about 1.5mm thick. Never had any breakages. |

great looking figures. I have been using artist mat board for bases. The material comes in different colors on one side/white on the other and is about 1.5mm thick. Generals are on 3mm round bases. |

Cheers FMB. They look grand when they are on my side. Horrifying when on the other side of the table. My cav-heavy Seleukids are not quite sure how to take them down yet. |
