Looking for opinions, pitfalls and positives about this game in comparison to 3.x or 4 (I didn't mind 3.x, but never played 4). I tend to prefer non-d20 games, but my gaming group has more d20 books than there are stars above, and prefer what they're most familiar with. pelgranepress.com/?p=9764 Most of the reviews have been positive, but just wondered whether anyone around here has tried it, as I couldn't find any threads on it. Cheers. |

I have run a few games and like it a lot. Much much easier to play than any d20 game but has enough heritage from d20 to be easy to understand if you have played any version of d&d. I have run games using modules from Pathfinder converted over very easily. |

ALTHOUGH, I would recommend you go "Old School" with Swords & Wizardry by Frog God Games. Die hard old school white box d&d polished up and made amazingly fun and very easy. |

Try asking over on the rpg.net forums, there's more discussion there. I've played a little (less than I would like, really, not enough time) and found it veryy enjoyable. It's definitely closer to 4e than d20/3.x in mechanics, but emphasizes roleplaying and the setting a lot more that the rather generic 4e did. Pelgrane has done their usual fine work on the book, and it seems pretty self-contained, no endless splatbooks to purchase. If Pathfinder is D&D 3.75, then 13th Age is D&D 4.5, but that's really not doing the game justice. It's not just another iteration of the same rules, but you can see the origins of its game engine clearly enough. |

@Only Warlock: Our group has been using Monsters and Magic for the old school rpg feeling. It's been pretty fun, the players enjoyed themselves, and it was a lot less confusing to them than THAC0. link Got it on DTRPG for a good price during a sale, iirc. |

I have played that off and on since it released. Good game. I like Swords & Wizardry slightly better since you can use either armor system. |

Our group is loving 13th age. We were pretty big into 4e and 13th age is better IMHO. |
