I just saw this movie again Christmas day (the 1934 version, with Laurel and Hardy) and must admit, I still get the same charge out of it at 41 as I did at 4.

Laurel and Hardy are, of course, superb, but what really made this film for me was the villainous Silas Barnaby invading Toyland with his army of Bogeymen (who gave me nightmares as a kid. Why DO we like being scared?).

It is great watching these fanged, furious monstrosities valiantly held off by Stan and Ollie, but, I think what makes this film one of my favorites is that the day is saved by an army of toy soldiers.

Our hobby to the rescue!

It is still a favorite holiday film of mine, although it has been a couple of years since I have seen it. The bookey men were _very_ scary to me when I was a wee lad.

Yes- Bogeymen routed by darts and those 6' toy soliders. I looked forward to watching it every Christmas. Unfortunatly, no one seems to run it anymore. You were lucky to see it.

One of my favorites too. They do have it on VHS available in the Suncoast movie shops here in the US. It's still a classic, even though when you look at it critically, there are some obvious flaws (like pads under the bogeymen's fur to absorb the darts). Still love it though. Thanks for reminding me. Happy holidays, and let's all look forward to a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2005.

Lousy special effects, and yet I never missed them. A grand flick all around.

The question is, did your kids like it? If so you really have something great to talak about in the future.

No kids I'm afraid. But I'll always love this film.

Superstation WGN ran it on Saturday. They might have it again next year!
