Hi people,

Just wondering which boardgames you guys have used for running your campaigns.

We've used Empires in Arms for the 7 Years War, yes, I do know it's for the Napoleonic wars, what have you guys used?

Any period, any system, I'm just interested.

Cheers,

Avalon Hill 1776 for American Revolutionary war.

Diplomacy, and the multitude of map variants available for it, has always appealed to me as a campaign engine, but I've never gotten around to trying it out.

Any of Kevin Zucker's Operation Series game from OSG and others (Napoleon at Bay, 1814 as mentioned above being one) easily fit the bill.

Several ATO (Against the Odds Magazine) games can also be used to generate scenarios, such as Gorkowski's "Askari", Andy Nunez's two SACA games on Maximilian and the South American Wars of Independence and Paul Rohrbaugh's Burma 1944-45 game also fit the bill.

To name just a fraction.

Another one for Avalon Hill's 1776.

Machiavelli for a small DBR Italian Wars campaign.

In the spirit of the historical circumstances (or being a rules lawyer jerk) I found a way to win without winning any battles.

I believe Avalanche Press' SYW game 'Soldier Kings' has a great map (if you take it to Kinkos and have it laminated) and a miniatures conversion system built into the rules.
I like the Impetvs books that publish campaigns with each 'codex' they seem to work very nicely. Campaigns are quick and engaging.
I'm thinking GMT's 'Sword of Rome' would be great as a system.

Kingmaker, Blood Royale, a Napoleonic period variant of Diplomacy, and Empire (Ancients) are the ones that come immediately to mind.

Avalon Hill's War and Peace and Third Reich.

Soldierking by GDW was always a great map for campaigns.

Panzer Campaigns of anything from the MMP Grand Tactical System works good at generating company level actions level as well…we have also sued GMT's Battle for Normandy and John Tiller's Panzer Campaigns (that's actually PC)

The old TSR "Divine Right" Worked well for a while. But again, people started dropping out once it required attention.

I have 3W Imperator all ready to go to start a campaign. It should work well. I will use my fast play rules to play out the battles but it has trade, politics and random events that are just as interesting as the battles. Starting the campaign is imminent, but I have been saying that since November 2013…

Risk 2210.

It served as the top level campaign map and force tracker, including "neutral" (non-player) forces. Each round, you got to write down three force movements (and could frontload or reserve one across rounds). Moves were simultaneously executed and individual tabletop games were played to resolve conflicts.

Thought about it with Risk LOTR and SW versions, too.

Tomb for an Empire link for a solo Peninsular War campaign, with Polemos Napoleonics for the tabletop battles.

Played the Spanish campaign in Empires in Arms once. Greatly enjoyed it, but the boardgame-to-table troop conversions need a spot of work.

We have used the Soldier King (7 Years), Athens vs Sparta, and a converted AH Diplomacy map (Napoleonic) for Campaigns. I am now looking at Struggle for New France for a F&I war campaign.
