Just updated the reviews page of P.B.Eye-Candy with a feature on the recently added Finnish Ski Troops.
(what you get in the packet)Dressed in white coveralls and ushankas with little equipment showing, these are pretty versatile figures for a season that is not well supplied by manufacturers
I have added mine to a varied Peter Pig Soviet PBI platoon
I like the proportions of the figures (nicer than the older figures with big heads and no middles) and they mix well with other ranges
(of course they are standing up straighter than the other two but
)I like them
for more pics and details, see the page. Thanks Phil P.B.Eye-Candy |

It's difficult to tell but they don't appear to dressed for cold weather. I mean they look thin, no padded winter clothing. But I like that they show little equipment. Perhaps they can be dressed as opponents of Khurasan's arctic figures? |

The hooded 2 piece outfits are certainly meant to be snow camo suits
But it's a valid point, dragon6
I much prefer realistic proportions to the clumsy barrel physiques of the typical 28mm soldier and they do look and paint up great. But yes they do seem quite closely tailored compared with what we see in archive photos – not enough to be a problem maybe – but a worthwhile prompt to other manufacturers maybe. Phil |

Nice review! What on earth is that (halftrack?) truck on the 2nd pic above though? Doesn't look familiar (=finnish) to me

Thanks
It is a Zis-22, Lonkka1Actual
(Phil's Zis-22 Zvezda conversion)
used in the Winter War
Soviet (though it is hard to imagine that the Finns would not have captured some) like the platoon in the picture. There are some more pictures on P.B.Eye-Candy/Zis-22-added
The Zis-22 and Gaz-60 were early attempts to produce an all weather/all terrain truck of which the better known mid-war Zis-42 was the result (apparently they made some 6,000 of them). Despite so much being available in 1:100/15mm, there is limited availability of such vehicles (and making your own is one solution)

Does the Axis & Allies Zis half track fit into this truck category? |

Thanks for the info. I'll have to leaf through some books to see if our forces indeed captured any. I find it hard to believe that they'd used/fitted any skis on the front wheels though

Plenty of photgraphs around
however here's a museum photo I recently came across which shows the sabot style ski fittings
It is the later '42' model, of course, but you get the picture. Useful web page o5m6.de Phil P.B.Eye-Candy TMP link |
