If yes, how do you like it? Some action shots maybe? Just wondering, Xin

Saw it in the box at Barnes & Noble, thought that it would be bigger. At $60 USD, not interested. |

I saw one last week and thought it looked great! My first official big ship will be the blockade runner. Also $60 USD is for chumps. Go to the warstore and save. |
Disco Joe | 05 May 2014 7:49 a.m. PST |
Mine arrived on saturday and it looks great and I got mine from Coolstuffinc which has it at a better price than the Warstore. |
Xintao | 05 May 2014 8:02 a.m. PST |
DJ, can you throw up some pics with other ships? Thanks, Xin

I got mine at a discount and I am still dissapointed in it. I thought it would be bigger. If it hadn't been for the new X-Wing pilot cards and such I would have passed on it. Right now I am thinking about trying to sell mine at a greatly reduced price and keeping the X-Wing stuff. |
svsavory | 05 May 2014 8:56 a.m. PST |
I played my first game of Star Wars X-Wing last week with two friends, one of whom bought the transport.
We used four Imperial Interceptors against the Transport and one X-Wing. After a tough fight, the rebel scum were destroyed. The Imperials lost one Interceptor and had two others damaged. It was a fun game. Even though the transport is a little on the small side, I think it's a nice model. |
elsyrsyn | 05 May 2014 9:15 a.m. PST |
That is a LOT smaller than I expected it to be. Doug |

So then I take it all of you who feel it is small would prefer something that is maybe 4 or more feet long? |
Only Warlock | 05 May 2014 9:37 a.m. PST |
Looks like my Ertl model from the TESB Rebel Base kit is larger! I need to order it for the rules, cards, plus I will be able to run a convoy engagement with two transports! |

It may not be in scale, but the transport certainly seems large enough on the table when you're trying to avoid running into it, or worse, having it run into you. |
Xintao | 05 May 2014 10:54 a.m. PST |
Thanks SV! Does the Transport have guns? What is the space mat your using? Xin |
svsavory | 05 May 2014 11:11 a.m. PST |
Xin, the mat is from Gale Force Nine. The transport doesn't have guns. Instead it accumulates and expends energy tokens for various game functions. Plotting a slow maneuver gives the transport energy tokens; the slower you move, the more energy tokens you get (up to the transport's limit of 4). Energy is spent for things like repairing shields, or activating certain upgrades. In our game, the transport used an upgrade to put stress tokens on nearby enemy ships, and later used a different upgrade to destroy a ship that already had a stress token (sorry, I don't remember the names of the cards). Also, if the transport bumps a small ship, the small ship is destroyed. Since the transport turns by rotating the ship in the middle, using its own maneuver template, it can sometimes bump a nearby ship just by turning, if the other ship ventures too close. |
svsavory | 05 May 2014 11:26 a.m. PST |
So for example, the last photo above shows the end of the game when the transport was destroyed (you can even see the dice roll results on the table). If the transport had survived one more turn, it could have destroyed the Interceptor next to it simply by turning left. The transport was skill 3 and would have moved before my skill 9 Interceptor pilot could get out of the way of the collision. |
Xintao | 05 May 2014 12:01 p.m. PST |
Thanks again SV. I will have to pick up the mat and the transport. I agree it looks a little on the small side, but I think the size works on the table. Xin |
Disco Joe | 05 May 2014 12:14 p.m. PST |
SV, the space mat looks great. Is that the fiery nebula space mat? |
svsavory | 05 May 2014 12:36 p.m. PST |
Disco Joe, yes, it is GF9's Fiery Nebula mat. |
Disco Joe | 05 May 2014 12:57 p.m. PST |
Thanks SV. I will have to get that. |
Parzival | 05 May 2014 1:53 p.m. PST |
I saw it on Saturday. I too noted how small it was; i compared it to one of my TIE Bombers, and the lack of scale was distinctly noticeable. However, I think in game you'd get used to it, and the smaller size keeps it from being an overblown bit of terrain. We didn't use the ship in a game (it belonged to another gamer who had somewhere else to be), but we discussed the various upgrades and the effects of the energy system, which certainly adds a lot of surprising tactical functionality to the ship; it ain't just a big target, which is nice. I'm on the fence on this one. Nice tactical possibilities, and the model is very well done, plus getting Porkins is a plus. But the scale is a little offputting, and $60 USD is a bit steep. I have ways of getting that down, but even then I might just save all that for the next wave of fighters. Maybe someone else will buy the transport in my group. |
Delthos | 05 May 2014 5:19 p.m. PST |
I got two of them last week. Although they are small, I knew they were going to be and I've got no problem with them being small. Making them larger would have only made them more expensive. |
Condotta | 05 May 2014 7:57 p.m. PST |
I saw them Saturday. The transport is very detailed, and while small, it is still an imposing model. Thanks, svsavory, for the AAR. I Do agree that the price stopped me from being impulsive, for once.. : – ) |
Nid Vicious | 06 May 2014 8:05 a.m. PST |
"The transport was skill 3 and would have moved before my skill 9 Interceptor pilot could get out of the way of the collision. I thought the rules specified all small ships moved first, THEN the huge ships? Pilot skill on huge ships only mattered when there are multiple huge ships on the table. Did I read that wrong? |
LordAshram | 06 May 2014 8:20 a.m. PST |
I totally want the transport but have NO need for the x-wing and pilots and all that:( Wish they were not a set! |
svsavory | 06 May 2014 8:21 a.m. PST |
You may be right, Nid. It was my first game of X-Wing so I was deferring to my more experienced opponent. He may have overlooked that rule. |
Delthos | 08 May 2014 7:39 a.m. PST |
Nid is correct, the huge ships move after all small and large ships. |
svsavory | 08 May 2014 11:10 a.m. PST |
Thanks for confirming that, Delthos, I will keep it in mind for future battles. I'm very close to breaking down and buying a starter set and a couple of boosters. I'm already heavily invested in Star Trek Attack Wing, which I enjoy immensely. That's why it was so easy to learn X-Wing. Just need to keep any spending on X-Wing within reasonable limits. |
Parzival | 08 May 2014 8:04 p.m. PST |
Gaming friends I know who play both have stated they've found X-Wing to be more balanced than ST:AW. I can't speak to that, but the concern seems to be that with WizKids taking their Heroclix models and slapping ST:AW bases on them to get the shelves filled with lots of product, some of the ship and faction abilities are unbalanced. Again, that's hearsay as far as I'm concerned. I did think it was odd to see a Nistrim raider available for ST:AW— now there's an obscure opponent for you! Imaginary Conversation at WixKids: "Well, what can we release next for ST:AW?" "How about the Nistrim Raiders?" "The who? Why the heck would we release ships for an opponent nobody's ever heard of?" "Because we've got unsold crates full of the things in the warehouse?" " . . . Nistrim Raiders— Yes, yes— Certainly an exciting addition to the Attack Wing line!"

I can't argue with your comments, Parzival. I've played a lot of ST:AW and there are definitely some ships and cards that see more play than others. Last night I played the Borg vs Species 8472; it was our first game with these ships. The Borg completely dominated in two games, and my opponent told me he's seen a lot of comments to the effect that the Borg are so over-powered as to be broken; I'll reserve judgment for now. Still, ST:AW is a fun game and WizKids' frequent releases have kept the game fresh and interesting. We also played another game of X-Wing with the Rebel Transport. This time the Rebels used a Y-Wing to escort the Transport, while as Imperials I flew Slave One with a lot of upgrades and two TIE Fighters. It was not a good build, as the Transport kept putting stress tokens on Slave One, preventing me from using my secondary weapons. We didn't finish the game before the store closed, but I had managed to destroy the Y-Wing as well as heavily damage the Transport. Slave One was a wreck, only one hit away from destruction, and one of the TIEs was damaged as well. Given the Transport's ability to repair damage and shields, I would have been hard pressed to kill it. I'm still fighting the temptation to buy an X-Wing starter set; for now I'll just borrow my opponent's ships, as he has plenty. |

Well, I made the plunge into the transport
Ordered one along with Imperial aces and a Hawk which were the only ships missing from the collection so far. We have a big game event coming up introducing middle schoolers to X-wing. Not sure if the transport will see the table, but it might :) |
