The WWPD campaign system provides an opportunity for table top players from around the world who may never meet to participate in a single event that gives their ordinary tabletop games additional meaning beyond scores and bragging rights. Our system lets players submit battle reports from their games that directly effect the outcome of a larger campaign! All validated reports influence the outcome of a zone, which can be captured or lost by an attacking force and progress is recorded on a larger map. This not only adds meaning and depth to players' normal tabletop games but also drives motivation to play more games, and get others involved.
By taking away the difficult parts of a campaign system (namely, scheduling, and bookkeeping), we've allowed players from all over the world to participate! Getting into the spirit of the game makes it even more fun: posting battle reports, fictional accounts, news reports and more make it a living, breathing campaign that everyone's a part of, even those with few local opponents!

I'm not sure that Operation Fischfang at Anzio and the offensive operations at Salerno were just "localised counter attacks"…….

Even the FoW site gives some info on the scale of Fischfang
"Two Grenadier Infantry Divisions, two Panzergrenadier divisions and one Panzer Division were earmarked to cut through the Allied lines and split the beachhead in two. In addition, independent regiments and battalions of motorised infantry, Panthers, Tigers, and Elefants were committed to support the counterattack and give it the hitting power needed to break through the Allied lines."

Sure, and the text I pasted is primarily for highlighting the campaign mechanics. Fischfang was certainly "localized" from a map point of view, though obviously a lot of effort was put into it… for pretty much no gain. Although, our campaign starts after Fischfang has already occured, and it's essentially why Anzio doesn't open up for a few weeks :)

Still, that kind of counterattack can be represented in our campaign, by hanging on to a region for as long as possible!

I updated the blurb text above :P

Great to see WWPD pulling players from around the world into a single collective gaming experience.

one of gw's best ideas were the "world wide campaignes". this sounds like fun.
