I promised a group of Wargame Holidays regulars that I'd put on Hastings as a special one day set-piece for this season. The upshot of the task was to paint around 600 figures at a rate of about 100 a week (and yes I do have a day time job!) I decided that the Normans would be exclusively Conquest Games and the Anglo-Saxons all Gripping Beast.

Here are the two armies just before they get wrapped up for transit to Crete:

All that's left to do is to build the hills once we get over to Crete. Glad I finished this lot off as its been booked five times!

Amazing!! It's taken me five years to paint 600 figures!

I thought the shield transfers for the Normans might speed things up a bit, they didn't and I don't like them and won't be doing that again. The Anglo-Saxon shields are hand painted.

That you, the masked man TB?

Jeigheff04 May 2014 11:58 a.m. PST

What a huge achievement! I can't imagine myself painting that many figures in such a short time, short of spray-painting them all one color.

Jon, I don't know how many TBs there are out there, but I'm one of them :-)
Glad that we're able to come after all…

Did you sleep during this time?

Congrats on your acomplishment

That is more than my lifetime total!

Thanks, it wasn't too bad, at times I was losing the will the live. The big lesson I learned from the Gripping Beast figures is not to stick the shields on until after you've painted the figure, made a big difference in terms of time and sanity.

Sleep is over-rated and a complete waste of valuable painting and modeling time. You can catch up on the flight.

Good tip on the GB shields. I think the group will have fun with your new miniatures.

The Battleflag shield transfers I bought for the Normans were a real pain in the neck. I followed the instructions to the letter and would the bloody things stick to the shields – no they would not. In the end I had to coat the shield in matte varnish, apply the transfer and then apply more varnish. Never again.

Bloody hell! That is a lot of painting! Kudos for doing it!

now we need to see the battle piccies :>)
