This week I received a set of these figures, 13 mounted. I would like to do 8 as an elite squadron, perhaps in 1813.
Rousselot illustrates a trumpeter, 1813 campaign, of the elite company of the 16th, with white bearskin, rose (Bardin-style) coat, and sky blue lapels and collar! I recall the French text suggested that the regiment had given up its musketoons to supply some infantrymen.
There are 4 bearskin heads with this set, without cords or plumes, and one could do trumpeter, standard bearer and two troopers with bearskins, and 4 men with helmets to make the 1st Squadron.
Question 1: Does anyone know if an officer would have carried the standard at this time? If not, the officer can go with the helmeted-company, and I can paint the standard bearer as a sergeant (marechal de logis?).
Question 2: Does anyone have information of any other regiments in 1813 that might have had the Bardin coat, but retained a different trumpeter coat? I want to do 6 or 8 figures of the 6th (scarlet facings); 11th; 12th; 15th (bugler shown in sky blue long-tailed coat faced sky blue in the earlier period!); 21st; or 24th.
Question 3: That leaves me with 5 extra figures, which I would like to do as the Madrid Dragoons as shown in one of the three Osprey books on the Spanish army. As I recall, the soldier looked like a French dragoon from the Scarlet set, but with a French-like "bell-topped" shako. Does anyone have a description of that uniform? My "stuff" has been packed away for two years!
