It was at the end of des of smaug, last year. |

"And there's also The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Cut, which we're in the process of finishing, with over 25 mins of new scenes, all scored with original music composed by Howard Shore." And then the super-uber-deluxe extended version with another 3 minutes of added footage along with some scenes deleted. And then the blah blah blah version. He sure knows how to milk the fans for every penny and they keep buying his drugs. |

More drugs, please! |

Each film has had a cinematic release and an extended dvd release. There is more footage from the first three, as GW have stills in their books of at least one unseen scene. But no one's threatened to release it yet. Sadly. More drugs please. |

I thought it was to be called, 'we haven't finished gouging you yet, so this is just a filler ready for un-named film 4' |

You can polish a Bleeped text but it's still a Bleeped text. The extended director's cut blu-ray will feature previously unseen s. |

You don't have to buy every version. Nor, for that matter, do you have to buy batteries and candy at the checkout aisle. |

I'm waiting for the extended version. Did that for LotR and never regretted it. |

Just saw the second hobbit movie. Not too good I thought. Lord of the rings it was not. |

You don't have to buy every version. Nor, for that matter, do you have to buy batteries and candy at the checkout aisle. Tell that to an addict
I mean "collector". I have the extended LotRs DVDs, the extended FotR blu-ray, and the theatrical trilogy on blu-ray. I don't care for the Hobbit movies--too wushu for me. |
Who asked this joker | 25 Apr 2014 12:56 p.m. PST |
I got flamed for talking bad about PJ back when it was first announced that he would be directing the movie(s) and that there were going to be three(!) of them. I wonder what they think about their beloved director now? To be fair, he did a bang up job on LotR. The Hobbit? Not so much. |
Marshal Mark | 25 Apr 2014 1:07 p.m. PST |
I watched the second this week. I enjoyed it, better than the first one. I did keep thinking though that when the last one comes out, someone could make a really good 3 hour film from all three by editing out all the stuff that isn't in the books. |

"And there's also The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Cut, which we're in the process of finishing, with over 25 mins of new scenes, all scored with original music composed by Howard Shore It was already half an hour too long as it was! It needed to drop the barrel ride and the whole running from Smaug in Erebor! Just too stupid! The first one had the stupid rabbit sled that kept leading the orcs BACK to the group instead of away, and it had just a little too much in the Goblintown battle. It should have been 2 movies like originally planned, and it would have been better. |

I have a hard time separating Goonies from The Hobbit in my mind. |

I have a hard time separating Goonies from The Hobbit in my mind. It's easy. The Goonies is better, or so says my son. (I've actually never seen more than the first 10 minutes of TG.) |

Having any of the "Hobbit" discs playing as background fare for family time is better than anything available as a broadcast series. Not worth fully paying attention to, but inoffensive as well. |

Kind of sad – There and Back again is a great title – good enough for Tolkien. |
darthfozzywig | 25 Apr 2014 3:43 p.m. PST |
good enough for Tolkien. Lots of things were good enough for Tolkien but just not EXTREME!!!11!1!!111 enough for Jackson. OLIPHANTS BIGGER THAN MOUNTAINS!!! EXTREME!!! SURFING DOWN AN OLIPHANT'S TRUNK!!!! EXTREME!!! GOBLIN KINGS TALLER THAN ENTS!!! EXTREME!!! |

I have the extended LOTR discs and I've watched them a dozen times. In fact, they were one of my mainstays when my leg was in a cast and I was confined to the couch. I think I paid 40 bucks for the used version from Amazon. Worth every cent. I'll do the same for the Hobbit set. |
Patrick R | 26 Apr 2014 2:08 a.m. PST |
LOTR had some weird moments and false notes, but the majority of it was quite well done. The first Hobbit film took some liberties with the story and then along came Desolation and it felt like they had fired PJ, and replaced him with Uwe Bay or Michael Boll
Just like darthfozzywig said : MORE EXTREME ! Because other movies are a blur of big loud and you have to be even bigger loud and more blurry. |

@darthfozzywig : I know I'm in a minority (probably of ~1) who hopes that one day they'll film the Hobbit & LOTR not as action adventure movies but as the character driven stories they are in the books. I know, I'm stupid. Can't wait to see what they do with The Silmarillion (someone must be working it up for a
6 part movie
..) |
darthfozzywig | 29 Apr 2014 9:47 a.m. PST |
Can't wait to see what they do with The Silmarillion Christopher Tolkien says they can have The Silmarillion "When they pry it FROM MY COLD, DEAD FINGERS!"
|
Patrick Sexton | 29 Apr 2014 12:07 p.m. PST |
When they pry it from his cold fingers by warming them with bundles and bundles of cash. |
darthfozzywig | 29 Apr 2014 12:24 p.m. PST |
No, Christopher Tolkien has been quite clear on his feelings. Won't happen in his lifetime. I don't know if his younger siblings, those who haven't made it their life's mission to maintain their father's work, feel so strongly. It's likely that when control of the estate moves on, there will be changes (and a flood of more crap products). "It was the younger sister, in the study, with the revolver." |

Margaret Mitchell made it quite clear in her will that there would be NO sequels to Gone with the Wind. And then someone waved a fan of $100 USD bills under the noses of her "heirs". |
