Hi TMP! I'm a first time poster trying to get a bit of feedback and some ideas about a project I started a few months ago.

It started when as an ex GW teenager, I decided to rekindle my relationship with miniatures and wargaming. At this time I didn't know about other companies producing stuff so I popped in to the (derelict and desperate feeling) local Games Workshop. A box of Savage Orcs later and a bit of research, and an idea for a world was forming.

I've put pictures of what I've got so far on a blog (first blog and first ever forum post, feel like a bit of a newbie in 2014). I thought of the name "Savage Lands". I realise now that several other people have used this name for other stuff but I thought one more wouldn't hurt.

What do you guys think? Both of the project and of the blog, do I need to write more or are pictures enough?? I will get in to ideas about narrative and stuff later on. Sorry for the wall of text!

I think your terrain is awesome! And humans hunting Dino's, what's not to like? Great job, Newbie. :-)

Looking good…

You might want to write a bit more about why you chose do this or that. Like the color schemes or the layout.

33 posts so far in April?!? Dude, save something for May! Hah!

It all looks great so far. Nice work!

If you're looking for more ideas, including rules, minis, terrain, scenarios, and so on, you should check out the Cave Wars Yahoo group: link

The group covers everything from accurate historical (prehistorical) hunting and warfare, to many flavors of fantasy and sci-fi that include cavemen, megafauna, or dinosaurs.

The group isn't as active as it used to be – I blame the new Yahoo Groups format for driving away a lot of active posters – but there are lots of archived photos and files, and you can read through the extensive message history, too.

Hmm, I have Dinosaurs and GW Orcs laying unpainted in a box downstairs. I feel an expansion to my Pulp Collection approaching.

Good stuff! Well done. The most fun to be had is when you cut your imagination loose. Re-purposing GW orcs in a prehistoric setting-brilliant!

Really neat.

Wow thanks so much for the warm welcome and positive feedback! Great little community on here. Thanks for the advice etotheipi and jpattern2 (checking that yahoo group now…), I think I just got excited and posted as much stuff as quickly as possible, I reckon I'll go back and flesh out the posts from the start. The quirkier models like the "chicken shaman" and the "samurai rhino" need some explanation i think…

Here's the next part of the scenery tile (WIP) for those that liked my terrain.

Thanks man, the whole board will be ready by the end of the week :)

Fantastic work, you've really captured the rugged atmosphere. I love the details like the Archaeopteryx feeding on the dismembered corpse spiked to the bloodstained ground.

I was thinking, a gnarled tree here or there sprouting from between the rocks halfway up the side, might add a nice touch, and give the eye a little relief from the monolithic blocks.
But either way it looks great!

TwinMirror, you're so right! I was actually planning on sticking a tree or two on there myself. I was thinking something like these:

Where can I get some good ones?? Maybe I'll try and make some.

jpattern208 May 2014 9:35 a.m. PST

A small root system cleaned, dried, turned upside down, and with some foliage glued on.

Something woody but tiny. I'm not much of a gardener but that does sound like the best option. Better start researching shrubs haha

TwinMirror27 May 2014 5:48 a.m. PST

Yes, trees like that would be perfect – excactly waht I was thinking.
Dried roots would indeed be perfect – sometimes you can find roots already wind-dried on a dead, uprooted tree or bush. Another option, if you live near the sea, is driftwood.

Suitably gnarled trees could be made out of twisted copper wire, then covered in some papier-mache with basic white glue. A bit of a hassle but you'd get eaxctly the trees you want!
