I have seen some contemporary plates showing the uniforms to be Crimson in colour, others show a shade of red …can anyone shed light on this?

Well here is the battle of Maniaki as represented in one of the Greek movies made in the 1960s-1970s

Remember that crimson could fade during campaign.

Does somebody make Egyptians or suitable stand-ins now that Alphacast is no longer in business? I guess I'm assuming you have a practical reason for asking about the uniform color.

Shipka,
Do you have the issues of miniature Wargames from 1999 with Spiros Koumousis' three part article on the Greek War of Independence? It has a color picture of an Egyptian officer and enlisted man. Contact me at edgington52 at comcast dot net, and I will send you a scan of that page. For what it is worth, it shows the enlisted guy as a slightly more "brick red" shade than the officer.

If you are still interested, I have some color plates. There is a very good book in Arabic (maybe in French, although I've never seen that version) by Prince Tussun back in 1940. Don't forget, guard troops had brown uniforms. Send me an email – jdunn (at) valdosta.edu
