Historicon 2014 DBA Event Schedule (July 17-20) Fredericksburg, VA
The DBA & related tournaments and events listed here are presented by the North American Society of Ancient and Medieval Wargamers (NASAMW). To join just show up and play in an event, or for more information on NASAMW, nasamw.net
Sign-Up Sheets for all events will be at the DBA HQ Table.
ALL of our events are new player friendly. If you show up, there are plenty of people willing to help you learn how to play and help out with loaning an army for an event. Just ask!
DBA events may be 2.2, 2.2+ or draft 3.0 versions of the rules. Please see specific event listing for the version used. 2.2+ uses the DBA 2.2 armies.
Information related to 2.2+ rules can be found at: wadbag.com/V2.2+
Event size in terms of players is unlimited unless noted below. Players should bring their own terrain but some communal terrain will be available; all battlefields are provided. Players must show up at events 15 minutes prior to the posted start time for assignments.
DBA Manager: David Schlanger
Invasion, Maneuver and Flank March
Two events (one BBDBA and one DBA) will be using Invasion, Maneuver and Flank March rules for 2.2+.
How does Invasion and Maneuver work?
Invasion and Maneuver ratings are listed for each eligible army in the two event descriptions below.
Invasion rating determines whose Topography is used. Higher numbers means more likely to be the Invader and NOT use your own topography.
Maneuver rating determines who is more likely to get a choice between setting up terrain and choosing an angle of attack. Higher numbers are better -- this reverses the 2.2 system.
In the 2.2 system, Aggression 0 meant most likely to win terrain placement AND most likely that your own topography was used (the two things were linked). In the new system the linkage is separated; one roll determines whose topography is used, and one roll determines who may choose the battlefield on the terrain from that topography or the angle of attack.
Mechanisms are the same as before -- a single opposed die roll using the rating as a modifier.
When can I Flank March?
An army may choose to employ a Flank March / Ambush if their initial dice roll for Maneuver is less than their army's Maneuver Rating, or if their initial dice roll is a '1' regardless of their Maneuver Rating.
Only the first roll -- if a tied modified maneuver rating roll requires two or more rolls to determine who sets out terrain, only the first roll matters for purposes of Flank Marching.
How do I do a Flank March?
For standard DBA:
No pre-designating.
Flank march can arrive on either side edge or your base edge.
Flank march cannot arrive on a board edge with a Waterway or where an enemy flank march has already entered.
Flank March elements must be place within 4MU of the edge and placed as one group.
Only on first bound for 1 PIP.
For BBDBA:
No pre-designating.
Flank march can arrive on either side edge or your base edge.
Flank march cannot arrive on a board edge with a Waterway or where an enemy flank march has already entered.
Flank March elements must be place within 4MU of the edge and placed as one group.
Only on first bound for 1 PIP.
A Flank March must be performed by a full command, that is, it must include all elements in the command.
A Flank March cannot be performed but the C-in-C command.
A defender performing a Flank March must first deploy two commands as usual, reserving the third command for the Flank March.

There Can Be Only One: Bayezid and Tamurlane, 1389-1402
9am – 1pm
Rules: v2.2+, 15mm Theme Tournament, 4 Rounds
Bayezid "the Thunderbolt" led the Ottomans into Empire, conquering the Serbs, Wallachians, Bulgars, crushing a French-led Crusade, and unifying the seven other Anatolian Turkish Emirates to become the greatest military power of the era. Or nearly the greatest. Bayezid was a mighty warrior, but it was his fate to meet one mightier still. He was massing his army for the final extirpation of Byzantium when he heard news from his eastern border.
Timurleng, or Tamurlane, unified the Turkestan Mongol Khanate and created a war machine unsurpassed, shattering armies and piling up skulls from India to the Crimea. And then he led his army west, into Anatolia, to meet the only general who had the skill and the army to contest his supremacy. At the battle of Ankara in 1402 Bayezid was defeated and captured, dying in a cage months later. There can be only one.
No Littoral Landings.
