My mission to get as many people playing Chain of Command Spanish Civil War continues unabated. Yesterday evening I gave Martin (http://tabletopmog.blogspot.co.uk/) his first game of Spanish Civil War using the Chain of Command rules. Martin took the Nationalist Regulares while I used my Republican U.G.T. Militia in an Attack & Defend scenario.
I've done a full report along with a load more images over on the Scrivsland blog link

I must agree with Zargon ! Your posts on the SCW have tempted me to also start gaming this conflict. And I am a Lardie fan – though I have not yet acquired CoC. |

Thanks chaps. If you are ever in Nottinghamshire contact me and I'll give you a try too :) I tried out the Tablet set of Chain of Command yesterday, highly recommended! |

Well, I'm sold in it. However, finding out about the units, uniforms, equipment tactics etc. isn't all that easy. Any recommendations? Out of curiosity, what at the die holders for. Assigning the comand dice to various units? |

McLaddie, As the co-author of the Chain of Command SCW supplement you can do no better than getting a hold of the 2013 Xmas Xmas special where the CoC:Espana authors describe the period adaptation for Chain of Command. I addition, the complete army lists are available on the Lardies blog with extensive historical release notes for each force
.start here
link There are numerous posts on the Lead Adventure Forum as well in the Interwar section. Cheers

HW: HOOHA! That goes a long way to answering any and all questions. Terrific work. I take it that Jan 4th with the Nationalist Army was the last of the Christmas Special? Terrific work and free too. You sir, are a generous lad. We will make sure to put it all to good use. Now to find the figures and vehicles, which should be fun. |

No probs. This site has all the list links. The Xmas special can be bought from the Two Fat Lardies website
.great value
. link When it comes to figures and vehicles in 28mm Empress Miniatures pretty much covers it all. In 20mm it's Minairon miniatures. ..check out Scrivsblog for many AARs. scrivsland.blogspot.com.au Cheers Happy Wanderer |

Hmmm. All I've found in 15mm is Peter Pig. Anyone else doing that scale? |
McLaddie | 26 Apr 2014 3:51 p.m. PST |
Just FYI John Tiller has designed a Spanish Civil War 'squad level' game for the computer. However, on the site are provided 'planning maps' of different battlefields with 40 yard hexes, which provides a whole array of possibilities concerning campaigns. I am already thinking about doing one around Jarama. And are there any other makers of SCW 15mm figures other than Peter Pig? |
scrivs | 27 Apr 2014 2:26 a.m. PST |
I must admit that I am pretty much set on 28mm using Empress. I don't know if there are any other ranges apart from Peter Pig that are usable. |
McLaddie | 27 Apr 2014 9:59 a.m. PST |
Well, WarModeling Miniatures has 18mm figures, but larger than PP. As the 15mm were to scale with the ground scale for CoC, I was considering going that direction, but Empress figures are impressive and have a far more extensive range
they're just expensive. Here is the link to the 'planning maps' I mentioned above, this for Jarama
They can be found at: link Do you have any references for medals and honors awarded during the SCW? [For campaign games] I can find lots of campaign medals, but not much. This is what I have found:[Some is guess work]
Premio Al Merito [award for merit--seems for both sides] Military Order of Saint Hermenegildo Nationalists Order of Military Merit [2nd/1st class] Republican Medal of distinction in Africa [Awarded Moroccan troops] Nationalists: Royal Military Order of St. Ferdinand Highest Military honor Republic: Laureate Pate of Madrid Highest Military honor |

link link link link In spanish, I´m afraid, but it´s easy to understand, I think
Saint Hermenegildo is an award by the years "under the flag"
is not a "combat prize". |

Terico: Thank you for that. Nice to see them. Whether they are National or Republican medals [or even both] is sometimes hard to determine, but most are obvious. Now, to find out how they were awarded. None mention that. But now we have the names. Gracias. |

Don't forget Historical Products Company's 20mm range of figures artillery and vehicles (Bandera in UK). They also carry some Minairon products. I believe I read along the way that the Minairon figures are designed to be compatible with HPC/Bandera. Reasonably priced as well. ebhpc.com |

I realized just now that the link doesn't take you where I meant you to go. Here is the link: link Once at the page, go to the top and there will be a tab labeled "Planning Maps". The huge maps are done in forty yard hexes of more than a dozen actual battlefields of the SCW. The game by John Tiller is a squad level game of the SCW, so the detail is not only suited to CoC, but of the actual 1930s terrain. As the maps are generally over 100 hexes to a side, while a playing surface for CoC is 12" to a hex, 4 X 6 or 5 X 9 hexes is the terrain for a scenario. With all that terrain, it is perfect for endless campaigns, which can follow the actual battles. I'm pretty excited with the find, so I wanted to make sure folks could get to it. The map above is an example from the battle of Jarama. |
