Lovely painting. I'm going to be that pain in the **** who points out that the flank company sgt should have either a white plume (grenadier) or green (light) |

Perhaps the Flank companies were attached elsewhere. |

And that if they are for Waterloo, they should only have 1 colour
. (If for Quatre Bas they have 2) |

Lord Hill, That is why I don't paint Napoleonics. Too much minutiae to deal with. Al |

The King's color was taken at Quatre Bras. I've seen it in the Invalides. |

"I've seen it in the Invalides." Oh really! Do you often post false information? Scroll down to post #31&33 in the link below. link Note, the shield and wreath are small and the wreath barely spills over on to the white cross. Paul :) |

Well, there is a King's Color in the Invalides that has the markings of the 69th. The legend outside the case claims it is. The post you link to says the King's color was returned to the regiment. All I know is what I saw. |

Very nice indeed – they really "jump out" and I love the crisp style. With regard to the flag in les Invalides, I wonder if it could have been the 66th from Albuera? I can vaguely recall seeing a tattered flag, but cannot for the life of me recall the regiment from which it was from

Good excuse to go back yet again to Paris. Confess I do not recall. There was the Salle de Vauban (I think it was) opposite the mounted mannekins, many years ago, which was filled with flags, but now empty. The church ahs many Austrian/Prussian/Russian standards. The 69th? Depends on how good you are at Roman numerals. But all recount the tale of the 69th flag bought at auction and returned to the Rgt
..many pics on line. Try the Kazan cathedral in Leningrad (not St P's) for captured flags (or the Moscow Military Museum or Borodino)

If you happen to be sight seeing in Wales, perhaps a visit to the "Firing Line: Museum of the Welsh Soldier, in Cardiff Castle where you will find the Kings Colour in question on display. Paul :) |

I can't find the reference in my books at short notice, but was there not a British regiment that " lost" one of its colours at Waterloo or Quatre Bras through it being buried under bodies? |

I can't find the reference in my books at short notice, but was there not a British regiment that " lost" one of its colours at Waterloo or Quatre Bras through it being buried under bodies? The 33rd also lost their Regimental Colours at Quatre Bras, but were recovered after the brave Cpl William holdsworth, shot the Cuirassier, who was riding back with it in triumph, and tore the colour from its pole. This temporary loss happened whilst the 33rd were not in square. Paul :) |

Hubbynz, all I can say is Brilliant! A pleasure looking at these chaps. Its a pity you do not live in Brissie, we could have taken a few more shots and popped them in the new set of Napoleonic rules I am close to releasing called Grand Battles Napoleon! Its a pleasure looking at your work! Please share more :) |

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I also love how everytime I post my miniatures with slight historical inaccuracies that it starts massive deabtes/fights on this forum ;-) |

The painting is superb and I wish I had a quarter of your talent. However I'm puzzled because this looks like a line regiment with centre company plumes, yet all seem to have shoulder wings. Was this a distinction of the 69th? I'm just curious – when figures look this good I don't think it matters. |
deadhead | 02 May 2014 12:49 p.m. PST |
Slight? Slight? This is slovenly. An RSM would have your guts for garters. Only kidding
I wish you had your painting skills. It does not matter, indeed. Half the fun is deliberately introducing an error to see if anyone notices. Hot tip. If you ever have to introduce a document to those who want to claim co-authorship, before submission, say for publication in a scientific journal as I do regularly, insert what is called a Trojan. A total nonsense sentence in mid text. Something like "Napoleon was a nice chap" in the middle of the Results section
..and see how many who claim to be co-authors actually notice it
great fun. Just never tell them
ever

Maybe we're inclined to get a bit carried away
does the unit look great? Will it look awesome on a wargame table? Could you mistake them for anything other than British Napoleons? |
