Just ran across these:

I wish I weren't always the last to know these things! Needless to say, Australia just scored another half-million awesomeness points (as if you needed any more)!

Any more info on these patterns?

Thanks,
jav98

wonder if you can buy the fabric, great table covering.

There's probably some gamer in the Aussie MoD procurement department who put in a call to their camo fabric supplier along the lines of "Right, so I like the pattern, but can you do it in 4" hexes? Flat-to-flat measurement, of course."

I don't think it is yet in use – this is a Thales demonstrator vehicle, not yet in service. The colours are correct but I haven't seen this "digital" patterning.

I wonder how well that would mess with digital optics trying to focus on it…? ;-)

Which would explain why all the female soldiers were issued chainmail bikinis…

Is this going to be the latest uniform fashion craze now that digital pixel patterns are passe?

Kinda feel this hex cam thing has gone full circle:

A fw years now at least. I'm pretty sure I've seen the hex camouflage on canvas parts (but not mudflaps) of vehicles in my travels up and down the Hume HWY going past the Pucapunyal base .
The main bodywork of the vehicles has always been sprayed in the swirls but the canvas part has been hex patterned for a few years now on the newer vehicles. Ive only seen light trucks and 4WD and some other big ugly thing I cant ID , maybe a troop carrier .
cheers Tom

G'day, Jav.

That cam' pattern has been used on AS vehicle canvas since at least 1990, so it's not new at all. And much older than the various digicam patterns, such a CADPAT, MARPAT or ACU's. I first saw it on new Land Rover 110 FFR's issued to 1 BDE units in that year. I don't remember seeing it on 110's in use on EX K89.

A year or so after 110's turned up wearing it the green canvas tilts on the 'Mogs started to be replaced, then the Macks later again- though green tilts for trucks were still common at units in 2012

Cheers.

Wanna hear about a real masochist? 15+ years ago, when there was still a scale modelling club in Townsville, we had identical kit competitions for the end of the year. One year the kit was a 1/43 scale Land Rover, civilian. One guy, however, had to militarise his, turning it into a softtop and hand-painting that pattern on….

Individual cam will be going that way soon. Well, at least as soon as the trials wing can convince the bean counters that it works. So all BDCU/Cam/Spotties etc will be digital pixelated in the near future.

chironex, "masochist" doesn't come close as a description!

Igkmas, that's a bit of a surprise. I thought that if they ditched DPCU they'd go with MultiCam. As you'd know, the black-brown-tan scheme has real visibility problems in some areas. And on some new tilts the brown was a very bright pinkish-tan. It stood out enough at Singo for the gunnies to mud-cam them.

Any news on the RAAFies proposed high-visibility RAAFCU? I've been out of Defence since early last year (though I still get the odd e-mail or phone call from the boys at JP2072) and have been hoping common sense will see the idea binned.

Cheers.

Looks like a rerun of German ambush camo. Intriguing actually and can see a lot of hard sci fi sporting this soon. cheers
