Hi all I want to keep track of my BEF units in games by using their correct letter/ number – eg A company etc. Can anyone tell me how British infantry platoons and the rifle sections were numbered? Thanks |

Pretty sure the companies were A,B, and C? Not sure about platoon or lower. |

As with all things British doesn't it vary with the regiment sometimes as well? |

Company designations did vary, Guards were numbered, not lettered, and some Bns chose W, X, Y and Z for the Rifle Coys. Platoon numbering could easily have been different in some units, the one variation that comes to mind was only numbering the Rifle Pls sequentially, which I've seen for late war in at least one Air Landing Bn. The above was the majority approach. Gary |
