I'm thinking of purchasing this but the only picture I can find anywhere is the one on the stockist's web site. For some reason, it doesn't appear to me it has the rocket setup. Has anyone painted one of these up and has one on their blog? Or does anyone know where a good image can be found showing whether or not it has the tripod set up? |

Its the RHA mobile version with the launcher on the ground as opposed to the big tripod that was carted around on a cart The bloke kneeling has the small launcher at his feet. |

Seems very unimpressive. Was this the most common version used or just one variety? |

Most commonly used on a battlefield, just plonked on the ground. Think about its potential advantages. No massive heavy gun barrel needed, just the charge and the propellant. No tube even. Fire and forget. No six horses and a limber. "Slight" snag was accuracy
or lack of. Half a dozen lads with rockets had the firepower of a "battery" of artillery, for a few minutes anyway, and were easier to move around (nor sure I can spell manoeuvrable
.Word can it seems). Remember, a flat trajectory was what was wanted, back then. We think of a 25 pdr with the barrel at 30 degrees
.that is a howitzer. Cannon in those days were horizontal, so a rocket laid on the ground was just what was needed. Tripods were for distant firing into a city
to burn it! |
