Hi,
I've recently downloaded a what color app for my phone which seems potentially useful….for example that photo of a russian artillery piece I took in a museum I can ask it what colour it is? It tells me Light Brown in terms of hex 0x857450 R:133, G:116, B:80 Pantone #4495

The problem is what can I now do with this to find the correct vallego, humbrol paint.

Oh while writing this email I found this website which does it for you without the app. scalemodeldb.com/paint
Interesting. I suppose I could have just taken my phone with photo into the model shop.

However there does seem to be number of these sort of apps. The big question is will they help me find that perfect shade of Dunkelgelb or Russian 4BO ? :)

Try this site:

You can at least find the nearest Vallejo paint color to match the pantone reading you get.

Ah the myth of "the right color." Now where's that picyure of the German jackets showing 5 or 6 distinctly different colors all called "feldgrau"?

I use this encycolorpedia.com
