I'm in the process of spinning up my science fiction collection, but I sat down and started thinking about the sorts of boards I want, and objective markers. I'm mostly looking to do the classic "humans vs terrible bug things" setup that the movie Alien has made so popular.

I'm looking mostly for something that's distinctly alien.

Something like the picture in terms of style would be nice. Conceptually I'm looking to have either the wreckage of a long crashed alien ship be the source for my alien swarmy dudes, or possibly the ruins of a dead culture. In terms of providing a setting for games, those sort of artifacts are rather valuable, so it gives a proper target to send my various humans in after to secure and retrieve.

I think Armorcast does a range of alien like bases for 28mm figures, I'm using them as spawn points for my Khurasan aliens.

A lot of garage kits in resin are available for that ship from Alien and Prometheus, but they're usually very small scale.

There are tyranid themed scenery pieces I've seen that may work as well, but I'm not familiar with that part of the hobby very well, others here should know more.

I've been repeatedly mentioning how there is a need for 6mm companies to produce something alien … not the GW like Gothic crap …

I think the scale wouldn't even matter. Something sufficiently alien would work as a 6 MM spaceship, or a 15 MM artifact of mysterious origin.

Armorcast has the Organic Refinery, but it may be to squishy and insufficiently biomechanical :

Scotiagrendel have items that could hide in your cargo bay:

as a spawn point;

and the floor

(hopefully your hive/bioship/drop pod won't need to be very big)(Then again, in 15mm this would look much bigger).
Otherwise, you could shrink down a cardstock ship eg. Shadowcore prime, or perhaps a ship like this, with a bit more dressing:

could be seen as 15mm.
I don't know how big these are, but they might be useful as the origin of monsters growing:
