Hi All, I have just decided that a bit of First Age army building is needed as a good project and I want to find a suitable Balrog/Balrogs (do they rank up?) to act as a centre piece for an Angband army and general scourge for the elves. Question is what do people think are good Balrogs? There must have been hundreds of them made over the years from the very best to the very worst. Can you guys help? 25-28mm scale is what I'm looking for. Perhaps some of the great demon models that have been made over the years just scream "I'm a Balrog." Show us your Balrogs! |

My favorites are the Tom Meier ones from Ral Partha
and the Black Prince's chariot which is made of Balrogs. |

I have this really old one
. link including Boromir and Aragorn, but no Gandalf :( Chalfant |

The worst must be the Minifigs Mythical Earth range Balrog, measuring in at 25mm tall and looking more like the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz.

Thanks guys. Space Monkey, I have never seen that Balrog drawn chariot before. What an excellent model. So over the top and I see that Iron Wind still sell it. See they also do Ral Lord of the Balrogs for 30 dollars. link Chalfant. That is a classic. I guess it's OOP but could show up on E-bay. Agghh Andoreth! Who could forget the cowardly lion. I think one of those lurks at the bottom of many peoples lead mountains. More please : ) |

I just went through this process trying to find a Balrog figure that would be about the same size as my Mithril Miniatures Nazgul and Istari figures. The Ral Partha Personalities Armored Balrog (01-081) was the best I could find.
Another possibility includes Ral Partha Personalities Balrog (01-003, V1 &2):
If you don't mind an unarmed balrog, Reapers' Agramon, the Pit Fiend (77112), although this one may be a bit large:
There are some others, however, I can't seem to find them at this time. |

Agramon paints up REALLY well, I had the metal version way back (sold it eventually) and have recent bought the Bones version for possible use as a 40k Daemon Prince to flesh out a Daemons army. |

My favorites are the Tom Meier ones, too. They don't just look like guys in rubber suits, they look alien, "other." |

Thanks guys, This is looking good. Must say that the Ral Partha Armoured Balrog just does it for me. Lovely paint job on that Jwhsu. I wonder if anyone has ever given the Minifigs one wings? |

They're probably slightly bigger than what you're looking for, but the Balor figure from the DnD collectable miniatures games is worth looking at. link The same figure, unpainted but in brick-red plastic, comes with the Legend of Drizzt board game. Also worth looking at is the Jersey Devil, a collectable action figure from Mezco that came out about 10 years ago. link Both these figures are around 4 to 5 inches tall. |

Thanks Jwhsu, Will have a look for that
..I will put Balrog on my searches. I have a good load of Meier CS series goblins and great orcs along with the "Greek" trolls. Makes for a good First Age Morgoth army. So the Balrogs are needed, perhaps with a Glaurung dragon. Thanks all for the help. |
