I have started painting them and will post the finished unit asap in the gallery. Cheers Keith Aventine Miniatures |

Really good to see. Another order will need to be placed. A couple of questions: Are the balance of the (Early Sassanid style) cataphracts next on the agenda? Is there any evidence for the syle of horn Adam is using, or is it artistic license? |

Delbruck Yes the next lot will be the Early Sassanid cataphracts/clibanarii, we might be adding cloth barded horses at that stage and some armoured archers.. I will seek an answer about the horn from Adam and let you know. Cheers Keith |

Great figures Keith and good news about the cloth barded Sasanids and armoured archers. Are you planning armoured infantry or should we use dismounted clibanaraii? Garry |

I think unarmored infantry are needed more than armored, but I don't think there are definite plans for any foot yet. |

Delbruck – agreed these were more common but I have quite a few already from Essex, A&A and even some venerable Hinchliffe examples. I was thinking of figures not already out there. Armoured spearmen in particular. Have thought about using A&A's Palmryrans. Garry |

I hate globe hats and square wicker shields. I prefer simple helmets or Phrygian caps. A figure based on the Montvert foot figure could be treated as armored or unarmored. In addition, I think an oval shield is more likely.

Adam Hi All. Keith just mailed me last night to reply to some questions. Yes,to most of the above. The next offerings will be early Sassanian cataphract cavalry including command. We also have plans for a special pack to tempt collectors but plans are not yet finalised. The horn is speculative only. There is some pictorial evidence for medieval Persian straight trumpets and horse drums but I'm not sure if these are appropriate to this period. In the end I opted for something that could have been developed from a rams horn. The Sassanians are famous for their silver work so I opted for a 'blowing' version of a well publicised silver plated Sassanian drinking horn. I'm not too fond of tall felt caps either. I prefer the lower styles and generally now think of the taller types as court dress for the rich. Armoured infantry are on the cards for the range I think, the final decision will be Keiths. Hope this helps. |

Thank you for the update Adam. Great work as usual. At this time I must say that Aventine is clearly the premier 25/28mm ancients manufacturer. I only asked about the horn because it appears to be a little large for light horse. It seems to me a small drum would be more appropriate. In the end I think I will use them with the army commanders instead. Infantry based on the Montvert above could be used for armored or unarmored. The helmet could be painted as non-metallic, and the mail under the tunic could be painted as cloth. A couple of other comments/requests. Besides no globe hats I would prefer no cloaks on the Sassanid foot as well. Except in rare cases (such as commanders, Thracians, etc.) I doubt if they would be worn in battle (and I think they detract from the overall appearance). Second, please keep the folds on cloth barded horses to a minimum. A flatter surface would allow easier application of badges (LBM?). |

Delbruck The command set musician is a two part figure so using a archer firing top half instead is also an option, a request at ordering time to exchange the two would be an easy one to do. I will add a short note to that effect on the store. Cheers Keith |
