Can anyone direct to to information on the impact/effects of cannon fire on various types of walls. Masonry, packed earth, etc? Looking to recreate siege warfare in 19th century India/ Afghanistan |

I asked that question long ago here, regarding India and Boxer Rebellion. I didn't like the answers! (I envisioned making a whole bunch of blow apart walls and towers. They derailed my enthusiasm) :( |

Well, I think most of the Afghan buildings are either mud-brick or dry stone. I know the Indian Army commissioned the 5.4" howitzer to batter down those dry stone forts with a 60lb(!) shell. Lighter guns just didn't cut it for driving Afghans out of their forts. 12pdr and 15pdr shells worked well enough for field battles, breaking down the sangars, though. |

So Lion, you believe even an 18pdr wouldn't be effect against an average Indian city wall as well as Afghan forts? Maybe a 24 pdr? |
