For those who know about The Greek War of Independence I was looking at the basing options for The Philhellincs volunteers, who whilst be former military personel frim a variety of countrys along with adventurers often disagreed with each other..should one base them as regulars or as open order troops..? |

As I understand it the battalion was made up of mostly European volunteers drilled to the standards of the period, so I would opt for close order. This would portray their vulnerability to deal with Ottoman offensive tactics with unsecured flanks. Also, they had a reluctance to operate in irregular formation due to their European based fighting doctrine, which lead to them suffering heavy casualties. You could treat them as light infantry and allow open order bt this would add to their disadvantage against cavalry. Just my take on the unit, be pleased to hear your views

The anecdotal evidence I mentioned in a previous post (really all these posts should be united, since they are all so interesting) indicates that they fought in close order at Peta. Than again remember that even close order troops could do skirmishing, just really bad. |

I will be using Spiros rules Freedom or Desth rules but basing will be adapted, with my 28mm figures based as follows. All irregular infantry will be based in pairs on 40mm rounds, all regular infantry on 40mm by 30mm rectangular bases, Artillery on 60m by 60mm squares. |

Why not keep individual basing so that you could also use them for skirmishing rules? |

I used to play Freedom or Death quite a bit back in the days of the Silver Spring Civic Guard, I have the rules on a shelf someplace. From what I have read and my recollection of the rules, the Philhellinics were close order. |

Anybody got a copy of the rules (without breaking any rules) they can share? |
