Hi guys my interest in Vikings has gone up since watching Vikings series on the history channel. I was wondering what are people's opinions of the best Viking figures and rules for 15mm? I was thinking Splintered Light for variety and also Peter Pig for figures. I also started looknig at Khurasan as well. What does the TMP community think?

What about rules? Longships or Saga?

I have a bunch of Splintered Light Vikings, and I think they're pretty good. I also have some Lancashire Games vikings, which mix OK with SL stuff IMHO, but are allright rather than good (sculpting a bit more rough). Don't think you can go wrong with Peter Pig…I don't have the Vikings, but I have some of their WWII & WWI models, and they're all good ones… I also don't have any Khurasan Vikings, but other figures from their catalog, and all are very good figures, so I don't think you can go wrong there either.

I haven't played Longships.
Saga is a good game, but benefits from having a variety of factions for people to play – and (in my opinion) people need to get into the game to play it well: you need to get experience of your own battleboard and your opponents' if you are going to get the most from it.

Baueda make a great line of 15mm Vikings:

+1 for Splintered Light Vikings (the best )

Saga ist a very good rule set. I enjoy Saga with my vikings and Normans ….Soon with my Rus,anglo-danish and steppe tribes.

Mine are a mixture of Khurasan and Donnington – they mix very well together.

Splintered Light and Khurasan are both excellent, and similar in build, size, and detail.

Those are the ones I went with.

Splintered Light and/or Khurasan would be my choice!

The Old Glory 15s Vikings are pretty good. Their Dark Ages ranges are their best. Outside of that, they are just ok.

GGouveia16 Apr 2014 4:51 p.m. PST

Its seems like SL has the best variety.

I have Essex 15mm Vikings and would recommend them. You can also mix in some of the figures from the European dark ages range and the spearmen and axemen from their small Rus range to give some variety. I also have Donnington New Era Vikings and Rus and they are compatible sizewise and qualitywise with Essex.

Peter Pig, New Era Donnington and Khurasan would be my choice.

Essex Vikings are not their best range and have been eclipsed I think …

Reviews coming soon (figures _and Longships) sorry for the delays (it has been a busy Spring)

"Peter Pig, New Era Donnington and Khurasan would be my choice."

Those would be my pick as well.

Splintered Light, then Baueda and Khurasan.
You can't go wrong with any of these lines.
Haven't seen Peter Pig, but I hear they are very good.
I have SL myself.

Does anyone know how well Peter pig mixes with Splintered Light?

Old Grunt,
I am not sure as I have not seen the Peter Pig Vikings but some of their Arthurian line I painted up were more like true 15s whereas mine are more like 17mm.

I heard the new Peter Pig Vikings are larger then their other lines. David I did get your early Saxons and Romano-brits for Dux Brittania. Excellent figures. I might get some of your Vikings as well for Saga. If I go with Longship I will also get some Peter Pig. Khurasan also will be considered, Baeda maybe.

Worth having a look at Two Dragons, run by Caliver books, full of character,

GGouveia,
Thanks for letting me know about the PP Vikings. I will have to check them out and see about adding them to my own collection. The other product I have seen from them has been very good.

And now to completly confuse people even more, I found this incredible Viking army in 15mm using Old Glory 15mm Vikings. Check it out, OUTSTANDING PAINTING, check out the shields:

I would go with the new Peter Pig range. There is a lot of variety and they come together well as a shieldwall. I used to have a lot of the 15mm Old Glory figures but have sold them off to replace with the PP ones. The civilian/religious figures plus the accompanying buildings does mean you can build extras around your army – pictures are on the web site.

GGouveia24 Apr 2014 8:57 p.m. PST

I ordered some Peter Pig and will also order some Khurasan once they are caught up on their orders as well as some Splintered Light. If I need hordes I will also order some Old Glory.
