Not been easy to research this beyond basic references to the Garde du Corps, The Horse Grenadiers, Guides and Chasseur a Cheval, with uniform details for each.

What I am looking for is firstly organisational information (including establishment) starting in 1806 and running through to 1815 for the Wurttemberg Guard Cavalry and then what headgear was worn at which point.

These are perhaps the best references but it is not clear whether these units co-exist or if they are evolving from one unit to another.

The Empire Histofig gives some of the information you are looking for. It is in French but there are English translations of most of the articles: link

This is what I have.

From the a pamphlet published by Raider Games in 1987. It's called "The Wurttemburg Army 1793 – 1815" by G.F.Nafziger.

"In March ( this would be 1808 ) the fifth squadron of the Chevauxleger Regiment Herzog Heinrich and the fourth squadron of Leib-Chevauleger were taken to form the third and fourth Garde-du-Corp squadrons. In addition, the Garde-du-Corps was increased by the raising of two new squadrons, bring its total strength to three squadrons. One squadron was drawn the Cheavauxleger-Regiment Herzog Heonrich and one from the Lieb-Chevaxleger Regiment. Both squadrons became "grenadiers". The Guard formation was then titled the "Garde-Regiment zu Pferd". In June the Leibjager Squadron was incorporated into the regiment. The Garde-Regiment zu Pferd now consisted of:

1st Squadron---------Leibjager ( 130 men & Garde Gendarmarie )
2nd ( Leib ) Squadron--Garde-du-Corps ( 127 men )
3rd & 4th Squadrons--Grenadiers ( 126 men each )

Despite these designations, when the regiment campaigned all four went as grenadiers. Their uniforms were slightly different, however. The 1st squadron wore a green coat and the others wore blue coats. Each squadron rode a distinctively coloured horse, different in color from those ridden by the other squadrons."

That is taken from the pamphlet. It does not say the colour of the horses. I know Napoleon did the same thing with his cavalry regiments. "In 1810 the horses of Guard Lighthorse-Lancers were between 14 1/4 and 14 1/2 hands tall in "uniform groups of chestnuts, bay, black and dark grey." That's from this website under French Guard Cavalry ( napoleonistyka.atspace.com ) .

The only resource I have with coloured prints is "Arms and Uniforms The Napoleonic Wars" Part one & two By Liliane and Fred Funcken, but I have found them very unreliable. So I will leave that to someone else to offer up. Hope this helps. Not sure that it gives you what you want.

The Wurttemburg Army is beautiful, with their helmets and dark blue uniforms they look grand on the gaming table.

traveller thanks. Helpful but still a little confusing, maybe this comes from the original and translation. I think "In addition" is not in fact additional, it just repeats the "In March" changes.

So what I am coming to is one Liebjager squadron (aka Guides and Chasseurs a cheval (Funken and Histofig)). Green tunic, low crested helmet (bearskin on campaign) and red saddlecloth (green on campaign).

One Lifeguard squadron (aka Garde du Corp, Lieb) Yellow tunic (blue on campaign), high crested helmet (bearskin on campaign), yellow saddlecoth.

Two Horse Grenadier squadrons, blue tunic, bearskin and blue saddlecloth.

Having matching coloured horses for each squadron is not unusual (in theory) as it aids rallying.

I have also found a revised version of Rawkins work on an internet auction site so I look forward to seeing that next week.

Thanks again.

The problem is, most special units like this one had a parade uniform and a combat one. I would sat you Green is what I've know as the Guides and in combat the other squadrons wore the blue grenadier uniform. When I was painting some Wurttemburgers the only miniature available was Minifigs and that was the dress uniform in yellow. For the grenadiers you could go with French Old Guard Horse Grenadiers. I don't know of anyone who make an actual figure for that guard cavalry. Are you doing 15 or 28's. I used to do 28's, but limited space requires smaller figures. So now it is 15's and half the number of figures.

It's part of the hobby. Doing the research and making choices.
