What a joke. You can buy the complete pack for the same price on foundry's website….

What's the old saying….there's a sucker born every minute.

If someone buys it then they must think they are getting a bargain. They will be happy. Or suicidal when you tell them how much they could get it for from the source:)

Understand markets my young paduan, :). U can by a glass of coke from the bar, a small bottle of coke from the fridge or a large bottle from the shelf. Different costs, same coke flavour, ;)
Gone are the carefree days of eBay bargains I think.

mikeygees15 Apr 2014 7:35 p.m. PST

Geez, and I thought we (historical wargamers) were the exception…

PLUS 1.99 shipping for a single 25mm figure, no less!

I have another one for you.

auction

5 ships from the old Starline 2200 line. I bought 2 of these for $5 USD each at a Sears Surplus back in the day. You can buy the new castings for about $45. USD The only real difference is the old plastic heavy cruiser (Enterprise) in his box.

Of course I have seen him list it at least 4 times. Crazy.

Yeah, I see 'old/rare/oop' Ral Partha and Grenadier figures all the time that I know are still available from IWM or Mirliton.

It's like the guy on eBay that routinely sells resin Combrig kits for double or triple what you pay at freetimehobbies.com.

There may be another phenomenon at work here as well. "Yes dear I listed that old stuff on Ebay. No dear, it didn't sell." You put it up for sale to please the significant other but you put a price on it that no one in their right mind would pay.

Private Matter16 Apr 2014 6:12 a.m. PST

That's a great idea OldGrenadier! I hadn't thought of that as a way to deal with my wife hounding me to thin out my collection of precious wargaming figures and supplies. If this works I can show her I tried and I can keep my stuff.

ANother even more devious reason to post items at inflated cost is to establish a high value of the item for insurance purposes. Create a sock puppet account, list items at inflated prices, then lose said items and claim the value on your insurance. When asked to defend the valuation of the item, say "It has been listed on Ebay for X, and although it did not sell it must be worth at least 75% of X" in replacement value. Voila.

Just to be clear, I am not advocating this approach. But some of these listings are real head-scratchers.

I have great respect for the guys who can get upwards of $25 USD-40 for a well painted 25mm figure. It's beyond me who would pay that much unless they just collect the pieces. I once saw someone pay $80 USD…hard to believe but true…

Inkpaduta16 Apr 2014 10:32 a.m. PST

I was looking for a book on Amazon. Found two places that had it used. One sold it for $8 USD-9. The other sold it for $11,420. USD Who would ever pay that much for just a plain, nothing special paperback book?

Gangrel16 Apr 2014 10:49 a.m. PST

Regarding Amazon, I have been told by some sellers that they use a ridiculous sale price as a 'placeholder' so that they can keep their stock entry there while they wait for new stock to arrive. When that happens they can then lower the price to the real one, so I'd imagine that's the case there.

Not that that has any bearing on 'rare' Foundry miniatures, of course.

My brother would have two accounts and would post one item that was I good shape at rather inflated price the. He would post the same item under a different name with the item described as in excellent shape at the price he really wanted to sell. People checking ebay for time would see both auctions and conclude the 2nd one was a very good deal since the first one was selling at a very high price.

I have no problem with entrepreneurs fleecing the stupid.
All these "EBay Outrage!" threads mystify me.

CPBelt17 Apr 2014 1:43 p.m. PST

He forgot to use "L@@K" in the auction's title. All fake rare auctions need that in the title.
