Hi Guys
Continuing on with the 'LONGSTEET' theme I thought I thoughts I'd share my latest completed unit.
An eight based US MARINES battalion.
The link to my BLOG post is here:

I'm quite taken with the Battle of Bull Run (Manassas) and having served on several occasions with the US Marines I was very interested in producing the unit for my LONGSTREET collection.

The Marines sometimes look upon First Bull Run as a blemish on a particularly impressive war record but I'm of the opinion they have been judged harshly in regards to this particular engagement.
You can find an interesting article of the Marines performance at First Bull Run HERE:

As for this particular unit I used PERRY MINIATURES codes ACW 30 and 31 which are actually Confederates in Frock Coats but these were the closest I could get to what the US Marine Battalion would have been wearing at the battle.
Please feel free to pop over to my BLOG for more pictures and comment.
Cheers
Scott

Very nice figures. I agree the marines are unfairly criticized for their performance at First Bull Run. They were essentially a pick-up team, but they kept reforming and coming back for more during the battle.

Well done, good choice for conversion.

Very nice. The battalion did a good job considering they were grass-green and an ad-hoc organization.

And they were one of the only Federal units that marched back to Washington in a disciplined fashion.

I thought they had a pipe like hat?

"I thought they had a pipe like hat?"

No, they wore kepis throughout the war. there was a shako, but that was for full dress only.

Very nice unit, thanks for posting. Inspires me to finish up my Harpers Ferry raid project. Is this the same uniform they would've had at Harpers Ferry attacking John Brown?

Dn Jackson Supporting Member of TMP16 Apr 2014 12:08 p.m. PST

No, at Harper's Ferry they were still wearing the uniform they wore in the Mexican War. Light blue shell and pants with a dark blue wheel hat.

Very well done! All my ACW Marines (15mm) are sadly depicted incorrectly for field use. They all have the dress parade shakos with pompom which looks nice but was never used in battle. I've been meaning to chop their heads off and install proper hats but it's harder to actually do than just thinking about it. Once I cut their heads off no turning back…
