Heroscape: Road to the Forgotten Forest

It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

The question is on the tin.

They have not been playing regularly, and that hacks me off.

People in groups tend to ?*ss each other quite regularly, gamers or not…. you name it, they've done it :)

Well…a specific gamer…?

Playing a couple games of Memoir '44, an ongoing monologue throughout both games, oh, I've lost, I don't have a chance, etc… He did win one of the two games.

Next time, I'm simply going to respond with "lots of random events between now and the end of the game" and if that doesn't stop him, sweep everything off the board with a shrug and say, well, sounded like you were conceding defeat.

Brought a "min/max tournament style" list to an agreed "laid back friendly" game.

Players who think they are the referee, not you just because you are running the game.

Recently? Nothing.

The great explosion/meltdown was 18 months ago.

No one has done anything to p me off in a long time. Last week I did though p off a good friend when the torpedoes I launched at the column of Japanese destroyers hit his HMS Hood instead. OPPS!!!

Not bother to take the unit you have provided with a movement tray off the tray when they form square or line – it spoils the look of the thing, but it seems so picky to intervene!

Same here. Down to about once a month now instead of every Saturday.

Started a league designed to bring new players into the game and then proceeds to use his same old well studies army to stomp them flat.

I get the distinct feeling that it won't go the distance. A darned shame seeing as I am busting my hump to paint the stuff the rest of us are playing with.

A few minor disappointments and a few hitches in communication, but nothing bad lately.

Drop my figures on the floor then step on them. Don't ask, this has actually happened.

Space Monkey14 Apr 2014 11:26 p.m. PST

I quite my last group because I kept coming away annoyed… but since then, after finding some new folks to play with, I've been quite happy.

We've hardly seen you recently with work an all…. come back down and we'll make more of an effort to annoy you, Dave.

Being critical and dismissive about everything related to the hobby and how wargaming could all be done better on the computer….

Would not be so bad – but he joined a group of friends who meet up at my place to play wargames! He does not get invited anymore….

Martin Rapier15 Apr 2014 8:16 a.m. PST

Not anything specific, but I think I'm just a bit bored wargaming in general. I am sure it will pass again at some point.

bgbboogie15 Apr 2014 8:39 a.m. PST

Same guys playing each other doing the same game week after week after week after week, if they want to do that fine…but do it at home, a club is a club and people who do not get games eventually drift away.

John the Greater15 Apr 2014 9:00 a.m. PST

Nothing recently. Mostly because I haven't played a game in about eight weeks (my hands are beginning to shake). Mostly people {cheeze} me off at conventions anyway. My regular group is very laid back; some of us have been gaming together for over 40 years and have gotten the {cheezing} off out of the way long ago.

21eRegt15 Apr 2014 10:07 a.m. PST

We've got a very level-headed group by and large so nothing recently. If there is anything it is of the "we can't win" "we're doomed" "the scenario is unbalanced" etc. Once a game is okay, we all get frustrated, but when it is playing on continual loop…

CraigH15 Apr 2014 11:09 a.m. PST

Once a game is okay, we all get frustrated, but when it is playing on continual loop…

If you come up with a cure for that, please let me know. As I said early, I am seriously considering sweeping all the counters off the board (easier in a board game).

Hmmmm, maybe the best defence is a good offence – simply start saying it back to them… Maybe that will show them how annoying it can get. But in my case, he'll just start arguing.
