Next time you want to introduce someone to Star Wars for the first time, watch the films with them in this order: IV, V, II, III, VI

This is from the blog post found here:
link

Warning it is a long post that goes into detail about theories behind the viewing order.

You forgot episode I?

darthfozzywig14 Apr 2014 12:50 p.m. PST

He makes some good points!

Besides, I will generally listen to a man wielding a machete.

darthfozzywig14 Apr 2014 12:51 p.m. PST

No, corporalpat, Ep I is best left forgotten. ;)

I vote we just skip I and II and watch the clone wars in the spot for II. In a few years we can add the new rebels show in there after III.

That way you get introduced to the best version of Anikin and get invested into his character then switch to the moody cry baby version right before watching his final redemption and victory over the dark side.

Man I wish we lived in a world that could reboot I, II, and III in a post breaking bad world and just copy that characters fall into the story. Replace Meth with War and the slow decline as Anikin has to fight to keep his good side yet still fails due to his intense attachment to his family and the need to make a better future for them. A lot better story then "But I don't want to loss my girlfriend! Ok fine I'll kill some baby jedi and betray my best friend for you even if you just out right lied to me…"

Man I wish we lived in a world that could reboot I, II, and III in a post breaking bad world and just copy that characters fall into the story.

When the second movie came out, I observed that the whole story would have been both dramatically more appealing and internally logical if Episode 1 had festered a teen-eged Anakin from the get-go. Make him 15 or 16, and suddenly all that prattle about "too much anger in him" makes sense. It also fits the "hot-rodding" aspect of the pod racing, his service to that stupid flying thing, and building C3PO. He's a teenage boy from the wrong side of the tracks and he's Bleeped texted about it… and the equally teenaged Padma falls for the troubled bad boy, and you've got a believable (if a tad trite) storyline. Age him a few years each movie, and you get a hot-shot young officer promoted too quickly (and thus is convinced he knows better than his older superiors "how things should be done"), who then falls under the spell of a powerful patron who seems to support his views. Age him a bit more, and he's a general with a reputation for ruthless efficiency on the side of "law and order," who's quite willing to accept martial law and the loss of the republican government in the name of order and centralized governmental authority, unable to see or acknowledge what he's becoming. His loving wife, horrified at who he is, tries to save him by working with the opposition to the growing fascistic new galactic order— he sees this as betrayal and *SNAP*….
an effective, believable tragic epic, setting up the redemptive epic of IV, V and VI.

But instead we got chubby cheeks and sulk boy. Pffftttt.

Oh, and anybody who shows episodes I, II, and III to a kid before they see IV and especially V ought to be hauled out and subjected to 40 lashes with a plastic lightsaber.

I shall do that for the next star wars virgin I meet.

The problem is with kids, they all know who darth vader is from the playground by 4.

I'll tell you something, I'm going to be looking out for a copy of "Harmy's Despecialized Editions" of the original trilogy on Blu-Ray for sure!

Brilliant alternate plot outline Parzival. I would also drop the whole Midi-chlorian thing and go back to the Force being more mystical.

Parzival, yeah – that sounds actually watchable.

I think the dropping 1 and using 2 and 3 as flashbacks between 5 and 6 is inspired.
